Requirements and responsibilities
Choose a public, low-risk question with a date boundary and two expected primary sites. Confirm the deployed agent has a working web-search/fetch tool; the hosted deployment guide does not promise a preconfigured search provider.

Illustrative situation
Illustrative scenario: a product manager asks for a short update about a public API change and needs links to the original documentation.
Choose the approach
Use web search/fetch for public pages when available, then open each cited page as a human. Browser automation and signed-in pages are separate permission decisions.

Dashboard and application procedure
Follow these steps yourself, or use the scoped AI handoff below for supported hosting operations.
Step 1 of 5
Check web tool availability
- Where
- OpenClaw tool settings or approved app interface
- Permissions
- Authorized OpenClaw owner or application administrator
- Inputs
- Current deployed tool list and search provider state
- Action
- If the Control UI is available to the authorized owner, open Settings → Search, choose the configured provider and run its test search. Verify web_fetch on one known public URL. If the hosted build offers no such app surface, request an application-admin handoff; do not infer xCloud preconfigures web access.
- Expected result
- The agent can retrieve a harmless public source or the gap is recorded.
- Verify
- Ask it to fetch one known public page and show its URL.
- If it fails
- If no web tool/provider is available, do not claim a current-source answer; hand the research to a human.

Step 2 of 5
Set the research boundary
- Where
- Approved private chat
- Permissions
- Authorized OpenClaw owner or application administrator
- Inputs
- Question: What changed in the official API changelog this week? Date window and two official documentation domains
- Action
- Ask for a two-bullet answer to the named changelog question, limited to official documentation within the date window, with a direct page URL and visible date for each bullet.
- Expected result
- The request excludes private accounts and unbounded web actions.
- Verify
- Review the prompt for scope and source domains.
- If it fails
- If the task needs logged-in pages or private data, stop and obtain a separate access decision.

Step 3 of 5
Collect primary pages
- Where
- Private chat and public web pages
- Permissions
- Authorized OpenClaw owner or application administrator
- Inputs
- Two official source URLs
- Action
- Run the bounded request and ask for title, URL, publication/update date when visible and the exact claim supported by each page.
- Expected result
- A source list tied to claims is returned.
- Verify
- Open each link and verify it is the claimed primary page.
- If it fails
- If a link is broken or secondary, discard that claim until a primary page is found.

Step 4 of 5
Challenge uncertain statements
- Where
- Human source review
- Permissions
- Authorized OpenClaw owner or application administrator
- Inputs
- Claim list and original pages
- Action
- Compare each proposed claim to its cited page; ask the agent to mark uncertain or unsupported points separately.
- Expected result
- The final answer contains only claims a reader can verify.
- Verify
- Spot-check every actionable recommendation against the page, not just the search snippet.
- If it fails
- If a source contradicts the answer or is stale, correct or remove the affected claim.

Maintenance
Before sharing another current answer, test search/fetch on a known public page and verify every linked claim against its primary page and visible date.
Recovery decisions
If a cited page is broken, stale or contradicts the summary, retract or correct that bullet, reread the original source and send the corrected link. If search is unavailable, mark the answer unverified and hand the research to a human.
AI handoff
Use the named xCloud dashboard for hosted controls and verify application tools in the deployed OpenClaw version before use. An xCloud hosting MCP write operation for these actions is not documented.
Supported scope
- Configure an OpenClaw application behavior app · manual
Upstream OpenClaw documentation describes application features. xCloud does not document every app configuration surface or pre-enabled tool. Verify the feature and permissions in the deployed build before editing.
Checkpoint: Use a harmless positive and negative test; preserve current configuration and stop if the feature is unavailable.

Manual checkpoints
- The application owner verifies Settings → Search or its authorized equivalent and tests web_fetch.
- A human opens each cited official page, checks the claim and date, then shares only verified bullets.
Feature coverage
- task setup and decision (covered): Defines prerequisites and an explicit hosted/application handoff. Check web tool availability Set the research boundary
- task acceptance and failure (covered): The summary answers the bounded question and every substantive current claim has a working primary-source link checked by a human. Failure: Unavailable web access, broken citations or unsupported assertions block the summary. Collect primary pages Challenge uncertain statements Publish a bounded summary
