Quick verdict
Choose xCloud if…
- You do not want traffic to change your bill. xCloud counts no visits and charges no overage; WP Engine charges $2 per 1,000 visitors beyond your plan.
- You run more than one site. Sites are unlimited on any xCloud server; an extra site on WP Engine's Essential tier is $20 a month.
- You want to pick your own plugins. WP Engine publishes a disallowed-plugins list; xCloud has none, because the server is yours.
- You want root access, a shell on the actual machine, and control of NGINX, cron and PHP-FPM.
- You run anything besides WordPress — Laravel, custom PHP, Node.js, Docker Compose apps or the one-click library — on the same server.
- You want to compare the whole price ladder before you buy, rather than only the entry tier.
Choose WP Engine if…
- You want a contractual uptime SLA. WP Engine publishes 99.99%; xCloud publishes no SLA figure and this page will not invent one.
- You need SOC 2 Type II or ISO 27001 compliance on the hosting platform itself for procurement or audit reasons.
- You want a large, WordPress-only support organisation and platform-managed security updates rather than administering a server.
- You want the managed platform to make the infrastructure decisions for you, and you consider the plugin restrictions a feature rather than a limit.
- Your traffic is stable and well inside a plan band, so per-visitor pricing never actually bites.

xCloud vs WP Engine: What You Actually Pay
The billing model first, then everything each one lets you run — every figure from WP Engine's own plans, overage and platform pages.
The two do not price the same thing, so this compares them at the point of decision rather than spec for spec. WP Engine bills by monthly visits, with storage, bandwidth and site count capped per tier; xCloud bills for a server, and counts neither visits nor sites. WP Engine figures are from wpengine.com/plans/, wpengine.com/small-business-pricing-plans/ and wpengine.com/overage-pricing/, all read 7 September 2026; only the Essential tier carries a published price, so the rows below stop where WP Engine's disclosure stops. xCloud figures are the managed ladder on /pricing/. ⚠️ This is a list-price comparison, not a performance one: WP Engine publishes a 99.99% uptime SLA and xCloud publishes no benchmark against them, so nothing here claims either is faster.

Moving Is Two Supported Routes, Not A Rebuild
You do not have to rebuild the site to change host. Both routes below are documented, and both bring the files and the database across together.
xCloud's built-in migration
Connect the site you are running on WP Engine and let xCloud pull it across. It is the path most people take, and it handles the files and the database together.

Before you start: if a token migration fails, our guide's first checks are to disable 2FA and Cloudflare Bot Fight Mode on the source site. A migration that stalls is almost always a security setting rather than the data.
xCloud vs WP Engine: Frequently Asked Questions
Direct answers to what people ask before choosing between xCloud and WP Engine, including the ones with an uncomfortable answer.
Is xCloud cheaper than WP Engine?
At list price, yes, and the gap widens with traffic and site count. xCloud's smallest managed server is $5.00 a month with unlimited sites and no visit limit; WP Engine starts from $30 a month for one site with 25,000 monthly visits, 10 GB of storage and 75 GB of bandwidth, plus $20 a month for each additional site. The important difference is not the entry price though — it is that a traffic spike changes a WP Engine bill and does not change an xCloud one.
Does WP Engine charge for extra traffic?
Yes. WP Engine's own overage page states $2 per 1,000 extra monthly visitors on the Startup, Professional, Growth, Scale, Agency Essentials, Agency Plus and Agency Pro plans. A visit is counted as multiple hits from one IP address within 24 hours; bot traffic does not count. xCloud does not meter visitors at all, so there is no equivalent charge.
How many sites can I host on each?
Unlimited on any xCloud server, including the free self-managed tier, bounded only by what the machine can handle. WP Engine's Essential tier covers 1 to 30 sites depending on the plan, and each site beyond your allowance is $20 a month.
Does WP Engine restrict which plugins I can install?
Yes. WP Engine publishes a disallowed-plugins list — last updated 28 July 2025 — covering caching, backup, database-intensive, related-posts and known-vulnerable plugins, on the basis that they cause security or performance issues on the platform. xCloud has no such list: the server is yours, so the plugin choice is yours, including the caching and backup plugins WP Engine blocks.
Can I get root access or SSH on WP Engine?
WP Engine provides SSH and SFTP into your site, but not root and not a shell on the underlying server, so NGINX configuration, cron at the system level and PHP-FPM worker tuning are not yours to change. xCloud gives full root over SSH plus a browser terminal, because the server belongs to your account rather than to the platform.
Can I run Laravel or Node.js apps on WP Engine?
Not on the managed WordPress plans. WP Engine runs Node for headless front ends through Atlas, which is a separate product. xCloud runs Laravel, Node.js, custom PHP, static sites and Docker Compose applications alongside WordPress on the same server, with a one-click library on top.
What does WP Engine cost above the entry tier?
WP Engine does not publish it. Only the Essential tier carries a price; Core is listed as “Get in touch” and Enterprise as “Custom”. Essential covers 1–30 sites and 25,000–400,000 monthly visits, so anything past that is a sales conversation. Every xCloud tier is published, managed and self-managed alike.
Is WP Engine faster than xCloud?
This page does not claim either way, and you should distrust any comparison published by one of the two products that does. WP Engine publishes a 99.99% uptime SLA and its EverCache caching layer; xCloud has published no head-to-head benchmark against WP Engine, so asserting a winner here would be marketing rather than measurement. Test both with your own site and your own traffic.
Which is better for agencies?
It depends on what you are optimising. WP Engine offers agency plans, a large support organisation and platform compliance certifications that some client contracts require. xCloud gives unlimited sites per server at a flat server price, white-labelling, a reseller programme with your own billing and branded client reports — so the cost of adding a client site is zero rather than $20 a month.
Can I migrate from WP Engine to xCloud?
Yes. Both run standard WordPress on Linux, so a move transfers files, database and configuration rather than rebuilding anything. xCloud includes bulk site and server migration plus a documented cPanel path at no extra cost. Migrate while DNS still points at WP Engine, test on xCloud, then cut over.
Does xCloud have an uptime SLA like WP Engine's?
No, and this page will not imply otherwise. WP Engine publishes a 99.99% uptime SLA. xCloud publishes no SLA figure, so if a contractual uptime commitment is a requirement, that is a genuine point in WP Engine's favour rather than something to argue around.
What happens to my bill if a post goes viral?
On xCloud, nothing — traffic is not metered, so the bill is the same the month a post does well as the month it does not. On WP Engine you pay $2 per 1,000 visitors above your plan's band, so a successful post arrives with an invoice attached, and repeated overages are WP Engine's own cue to upgrade a tier.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.
xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian GeovannyI've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.
Kevin PinedaI'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting
Leo KooHow Cloud Nine Web Elevated Client Experience While Streamlining Hosting Operations using xCloud
Ed EllinghamxCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.
Dumitru ButucelxCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.
Waqar AhmedTrust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍
Rahul SinghSo far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.
Massimo VillaCame from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson ElI've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony LewisI came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowellI like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose
David McCanHow Kevin Heinrichs Cut Hosting Costs by 84% While Running WooCommerce & Node.js Sites Efficiently
Kevin HeinrichsI had 150 sites on cloudways and am in the process of moving them to xcloud. Much faster and better priced.
Dan SpinozaDear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.
Rahil MaknojiaCame from runcloud. Tried xcloud and never came back.

Gary MoodyxCloud gave me what no other hosting platform could: the flexibility of a VPS with the convenience of managed WordPress. As a solo founder running an entire business on one server, that combination is an important unfair advantage.
Jorge de los Reyes MartínezI use Server Avatar and xCloud and I'll sooner use xCloud than Server Avatar personally.
