Self-Hosted Apps: Step-by-Step Self-Hosting Guides

To self-host an open-source app on xCloud, deploy it from the One-Click catalogue onto a server you own, point a domain at it and finish the app's own first-run setup. The 33 guides below walk through those steps for 28 apps, one app at a time.

Frequently Asked Questions

About self-hosting open-source apps on xCloud.

What is self-hosting?

Self-hosting means you run the app on a server you control instead of using the vendor's hosted service. The app, its database and its files sit on that server, so you decide where the data lives, who can reach it and when to move to a new release.

What does a One-Click deploy on xCloud set up for me?

You pick an app, a domain and a server, and xCloud deploys the app's containers, its volumes, any credentials its template generates and HTTPS. You then finish the app's own first-run setup, such as creating the first admin account, which each guide covers.

Do I need to know Docker to follow these guides?

No. A One-Click deploy writes and runs the Docker Compose setup for you. If you want to change it later, xCloud lets you edit the app's Docker Compose file from the dashboard; the guide on updating a One-Click app shows how.

Are self-hosted apps on xCloud updated automatically?

No. A One-Click template pins its app image, so existing apps are not upgraded for you. Back up first, read the app's release notes, then run Update from the app's App Actions menu, or change the image on its Compose page, when you are ready.

What if the app I want has no guide yet?

You can still deploy it. The One-Click catalogue has 1038 apps, and every one deploys the same way: pick the app, a domain and a server. This page lists the apps that also have a step-by-step guide.
