EDGE CACHING

Edge Caching for WordPress, Switched On From xCloud

Edge caching stores your WordPress pages on Cloudflare's network, so visitors get them from a location near them instead of from your server. xCloud turns it on with one switch on the site's Caching page. It is for WordPress sites that use Cloudflare, and it is free on every plan.

  • Whole pages served from Cloudflare
  • Carts, checkouts and logins skipped for you
  • Free on every plan

WHY IT MATTERS

Why Cache Pages at the Edge?

  • Faster for far-away visitors

Pages come from a Cloudflare location near the visitor, not from one server across the world.

  • Less work for your server

Cached pages are answered by Cloudflare, so your server handles fewer requests in a traffic spike.

  • Works with your page cache

Keep your server's page cache or caching plugin. The edge cache sits in front of it.

WHAT YOU GET

What Does Edge Caching on xCloud Include?

  • One switch

Turn on Cloudflare Edge Cache from the site's Caching page. xCloud creates the Cloudflare cache rule.

  • Ready-made exclusions

Admin, login and the standard cart, checkout and account pages are skipped, and so are logged-in visitors.

  • Your own rules

Add URL and cookie patterns that should never be cached under Advanced Settings.

  • Purge in one click

Clear the edge cache from xCloud, or from Cache in the WordPress admin bar.

HOW IT WORKS

How Do You Turn On Edge Caching?

  1. Connect Cloudflare

Connect your Cloudflare account to xCloud and set the site to Cloudflare SSL.

  2. Open Caching

Open the site, then go to WordPress → Caching.

  3. Switch it on

Turn on Cloudflare Edge Cache, check Advanced Settings, and click Save Changes.

LIMITS AND PLANS

What Should You Know Before You Turn On Edge Caching?

  • WordPress sites

Edge caching is for WordPress sites, on Nginx or OpenLiteSpeed servers.

  • Cloudflare SSL

The site needs Cloudflare SSL and a domain in your connected Cloudflare account.

  • Not on staging domains

Demo and staging sites on a staging domain cannot use it. Add your own domain first.

  • Not with password protection

Edge caching cannot work while password protection (Basic Authentication) is on. Turn it off first.

  • Cloudflare APO can conflict

If your Cloudflare account uses Automatic Platform Optimization (APO), the two can conflict. We recommend turning APO off first.

  • Server blocks do not apply

IP and region blocks set on your server do not cover cached pages. Blocked visitors can still see them.

  • Clear it after you edit

The cache does not clear by itself when you edit a page. Purge it after each change.

  • Free on every plan

Edge caching is free on every plan. If you use the Cloudflare Enterprise add-on, it handles edge caching instead.
