REDIS OBJECT CACHE

Redis Object Cache for WordPress, in One Switch

A Redis object cache keeps the answers to repeated database questions in memory, so WordPress pages build faster. On Nginx servers, xCloud installs Redis and the plugin when you turn it on. New sites usually start with xSpeed Cache, which has its own object cache, so they usually do not need this switch. It is free on every plan.

  • Redis installed and connected for you
  • Object Cache Pro with your own licence
  • Free on every plan

WHY IT MATTERS

Why Use a Redis Object Cache?

  • Fewer database trips

WordPress asks the database the same things on every page. Redis answers from memory instead.

  • Helps logged-in visitors

Page caches skip carts, accounts and admin pages. An object cache still speeds those up.

  • Faster admin

The WordPress dashboard and WooCommerce orders screens ask the database for a lot of data. Caching it cuts the wait.

WHAT YOU GET

What Does xCloud Set Up for You?

  • Redis Object Cache

On Nginx, one switch installs Redis on the server if needed and adds the Redis Object Cache plugin.

  • Credentials in the panel

See the Redis user, password and cache key on the Caching and Credentials pages.

  • Object Cache Pro

Add your licence once, then turn on Object Cache Pro for any site, with an optional debug mode.

  • Purge in one click

Clear the object cache from the site's Caching page whenever you need fresh data.

HOW IT WORKS

How Do You Turn On Redis Object Cache?

  1. Open Caching

Open the WordPress site, then go to WordPress → Caching.

  2. Switch on Redis

On an Nginx server, turn on Redis Object Cache. xCloud installs and connects everything. If the site runs xSpeed Cache, skip this step.

  3. Or use Object Cache Pro

Add your licence under Integrations → Others, then turn on Object Cache Pro and pick it. It replaces the object cache in xSpeed Cache.

LIMITS AND PLANS

What Should You Know Before You Turn It On?

  • WordPress sites

Redis object caching is for WordPress sites hosted on xCloud.

  • Nginx only

The Redis switch is only on Nginx servers. On OpenLiteSpeed, the object cache comes from xSpeed Cache or LiteSpeed Cache. Object Cache Pro works on both.

  • New sites and xSpeed Cache

New WordPress sites usually start with xSpeed Cache, which has its own object cache. They usually do not need this switch.

  • One object cache at a time

Only one can run. If xSpeed Cache and Redis Object Cache are both on, turn Redis Object Cache off. Turn off Object Cache Pro before you turn on Redis Object Cache. Turning on Object Cache Pro switches Redis Object Cache off for you.

  • Free on every plan

Free on every xCloud plan. Object Cache Pro needs a licence you buy from its makers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What people ask about Redis Object Cache on xCloud.

Is Redis object cache free on xCloud?

Yes. Redis Object Cache is free on every xCloud plan. xCloud installs Redis and the free Redis Object Cache plugin for you.

Do new WordPress sites need Redis Object Cache?

Usually not. New WordPress sites usually start with xSpeed Cache, which has its own object cache. If xSpeed Cache already handles it, leave the Redis switch off, because only one object cache can run.

What is the difference between Redis Object Cache and Object Cache Pro?

Both store WordPress data in Redis. Redis Object Cache is a free plugin. Object Cache Pro is a paid plugin, and you add your own licence to xCloud.

Where do I find my Redis credentials?

Open the site's Caching page or its Credentials page in xCloud. Both show the Redis user, password and cache key.

Does Redis object cache work on OpenLiteSpeed?

On OpenLiteSpeed, there is no Redis switch. Use the object cache in xSpeed Cache or LiteSpeed Cache instead. Object Cache Pro works on both Nginx and OpenLiteSpeed.

Do I still need a page cache with Redis?

Yes, they do different jobs. A page cache stores whole pages. Redis speeds up the pages a page cache cannot store, like carts and the admin.
