Can I deploy to my own server, or does it have to be an xCloud server?
Either. You can launch a server that xCloud provisions and manages for you, or connect a VPS you already run at DigitalOcean, Vultr, Linode, AWS, Hetzner or on your own hardware. The deployment flow, the control panel and the Next.js features are identical; what differs is who owns the machine and who patches the operating system.
What is the difference in what I pay?
A managed server is one flat monthly price that covers the machine and the management. Self-managed is a smaller per-server fee for the panel, and you pay your own provider separately for the server. Both are shown above.
Does server-side rendering work, or is this static only?
Both work. When you create the site you choose whether it is served as a static export or run as a Node process. The Node option is what you want for server rendering, API routes and anything that reads a request at runtime.
Which Next.js versions and routers are supported?
xCloud runs your app with your own build and start commands on the Node version you select, so App Router and Pages Router both work, as does any version your code builds against. If it runs with npm run build and npm start locally, it runs here.
How do deployments happen after the first one?
Connect the repository once and pushes to your live branch deploy automatically. You can also trigger a deploy from the dashboard when you would rather choose the moment.
Can I use a database?
Yes. You can attach a database during setup or later from site settings, and connect to an external managed database instead if you already have one.
Do I get shell access?
Yes. These are real servers with SSH and root access, so you can run migrations, inspect logs and add background processes beside your app.
Can I host more than one app on a server?
Yes. A plan is a server, not a site. Run several Next.js apps, plus WordPress or anything else, on the same server until you need more room.
What if I want to move away later?
Your code stays in your Git repository and the app runs as a standard Node process, so there is nothing proprietary to unpick. Take the repo and the database anywhere.
