What is Keycloak?

Keycloak is an open-source identity and access management platform for single sign-on, using OpenID Connect, OAuth 2.0 and SAML. It handles identity brokering, user federation, multi-factor authentication, session administration and customizable authentication flows.

Is Keycloak free?

The Keycloak community software is Apache-2.0 open source with no per-user licence fee. Server resources, the xCloud service, your domain, backups, email delivery, implementation and any optional commercial support are separate costs.

What does the xCloud template install?

Keycloak 26.7.0, pinned to a tested multi-architecture digest, running in production start mode with PostgreSQL 17 — not the development database. HTTPS is routed through xCloud nginx while Keycloak's own HTTP port stays localhost-bound, with health checks on both services and generated infrastructure credentials.

Does xCloud configure my applications and SSO automatically?

No. The template deploys Keycloak itself — you still create realms and clients, set exact redirect URIs and web origins, connect applications, and configure MFA, federation and SMTP for your own environment.

How do I secure the first administrator?

Use the generated bootstrap credentials once to sign in, create and verify a named permanent administrator, then disable or remove the temporary bootstrap account. Changing the bootstrap username or password afterward does not rotate an account already created — manage administrators inside Keycloak from then on. Keep ordinary application users and clients out of the master realm.

Is this highly available?

No. This OneClick template is a single-node Keycloak plus PostgreSQL deployment. Business-critical high availability needs a separately designed multi-node application and database architecture, which is outside this template.

Where is Keycloak's data stored?

Realms, users, clients, credentials, signing keys and configuration live in PostgreSQL on the persistent keycloak_db volume. Use an application-consistent PostgreSQL backup such as pg_dump, and treat that data as highly sensitive identity-system data.

How much RAM does Keycloak need?

The template's enforced minimum is 2 GB RAM, 2 CPU cores and 5 GB disk, which the 6 GB plan clears with room to spare for evaluation or small internal use. A small production deployment is a better fit around 4 GB RAM and 20+ GB disk for concurrent logins and database growth.

Can I use OIDC and SAML?

Yes. Keycloak supports OpenID Connect, OAuth 2.0 and SAML — each application still needs to be configured correctly in its own realm, with the right redirect URIs and client settings.

Does catalogue sync update existing Keycloak installations?

No. New installs are pinned to 26.7.0, and a catalogue re-sync affects future installs only. Upgrading an existing site is deliberate: back up PostgreSQL first, review Keycloak's own upgrading guide for migrations and deprecated behavior, then verify admin access, login and token issuance afterward.

How long does deployment take?

About five minutes to a healthy, HTTPS-secured Keycloak instance with PostgreSQL already wired up behind it and your bootstrap administrator credentials waiting in the panel.

Is xCloud an official Keycloak or Red Hat partner?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and Keycloak or Red Hat was found or should be implied. Red Hat's related commercial support subscription is separate from this open-source community template.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
