What is Paperless-ngx?
Paperless-ngx is an open-source, self-hosted document management system. It OCRs your documents, builds full-text search over them, and organizes records with tags, correspondents, document types, storage paths, custom fields and workflows — on a server you own.
Is Paperless-ngx free?
The community software is open source under GPL-3.0, so there is no software licence fee. What you pay for is your VPS, the xCloud service, your domain, off-server backup storage, and any optional third-party services you add.
Can I host Paperless-ngx on my own VPS?
Yes — that is exactly what this OneClick template does. It deploys Paperless-ngx 3.0.4 on an xCloud-managed Docker + nginx server, with PostgreSQL and Valkey alongside it and no Compose file for you to write.
What files can it process?
PDFs, common image formats and plain-text documents through the standard Paperless-ngx image, with OCR applied automatically.
Does this include Office-document conversion?
No, not in this template version. Converting Word, Excel and similar Office documents upstream requires optional Apache Tika and Gotenberg services, which are intentionally not included here. Convert those files to PDF before uploading if you need them archived.
What does the xCloud template deploy?
Paperless-ngx 3.0.4 with PostgreSQL and Valkey, six persistent named volumes covering the application, documents, database, consume, export and broker state, and HTTPS proxying through xCloud nginx. Only Paperless-ngx's web port is exposed; PostgreSQL and Valkey stay on the internal network.
What do I enter during deployment?
Just a site title and a domain choice — there is no separate Advanced panel or app-specific field in this template. xCloud generates the database name, user and password, the Paperless signing key, and a 24-character initial administrator password, all shown in your credentials panel.
How much server do I need?
The template's enforced minimum is 2 CPU cores, 2 GB RAM and 10 GB disk, which the 6 GB plan clears comfortably for a light personal archive. A small team doing concurrent searches and imports is a better fit around 4 CPU / 4 GB, and an OCR-heavy or fast-growing archive should plan for 4+ CPU / 8+ GB.
What should I back up?
All six volumes together: PostgreSQL, Paperless's application data (search index and classification state), media (originals, thumbnails and archived files), the consume and export directories, and the broker state. Pause ingestion and background processing for a consistent snapshot, keep encrypted off-server copies, and test the restore. Never modify the database while Paperless-ngx is running.
Does xCloud update Paperless-ngx automatically?
No. New installs are pinned to 3.0.4, and a catalogue re-sync affects future installs only — it never silently upgrades an existing site. Stop active consumption, verify a full backup, read the release notes, then recreate services without deleting volumes.
How long does deployment take?
About five minutes to a healthy, HTTPS-secured Paperless-ngx instance with PostgreSQL and Valkey already wired up behind it and your initial administrator credentials waiting in the panel.
Is this an official Paperless-ngx partnership?
No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Paperless-ngx project was found or should be implied — this is a deployment template for open-source software anyone can self-host.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
