What is Drupal CMS?

Is Drupal free?
Yes — Drupal CMS is free and open source under the GPL-2.0-or-later license. What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the software itself.
Can I self-host Drupal CMS?
Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the official Drupal CMS image behind an nginx gateway alongside a private MariaDB database and a dedicated cron process, mounts three persistent volumes, and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain in minutes instead of assembled by hand.
Who becomes the administrator, and how do I sign in?
xCloud creates the initial administrator with the fixed username "admin" and a generated 32-character password, shown once in your Credentials panel alongside the Site URL and the Login URL (/user/login). You only choose the administrator email address at install time.
Can other people register accounts?
Not by default. Registration is set to admin_only from first boot, so new accounts are created by an administrator inside Drupal — there is no public self-service sign-up form to secure or disable.
What does xCloud configure automatically?
The pinned Drupal CMS image, a private MariaDB database with generated credentials, a stable hash salt, the administrator account, the domain, the HTTPS route, and a dedicated cron process. Only the nginx gateway is published — the app, MariaDB and cron all stay private to the internal network.
Why does Drupal need a hash salt, and can I change it?
The hash salt is a 64-character secret baked into Drupal's settings that secures password hashes and security tokens. It should stay stable — rotating it casually can invalidate existing sessions and tokens, which is why the template's own notice warns against doing that lightly.
Is the database reachable from the internet?
No. MariaDB carries no host port and stays on the internal network — only the nginx gateway is published, bound to the reverse proxy.
How does cron work on this template?
Drupal's own page-request-triggered cron is turned off. A separate cron container runs drush cron every five minutes on its own timer, independent of whether anyone is visiting the site.
Does password reset work out of the box?
Not until you configure outbound mail. The template's own post-install message says explicitly to set up mail delivery inside Drupal before relying on password-reset emails.
What should I back up?
All three volumes together, from the same point in time: drupal_db (the MariaDB database), drupal_code (your complete Composer project, custom modules and themes) and drupal_files (uploads, private files and configuration exports). Quiesce writers or use an app-consistent snapshot plus a database dump so all three stay in sync.
Does xCloud automatically back up or update Drupal?
No. Only the application and cron image is pinned by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only, and pulling a newer image does not upgrade an existing site's persisted Composer project. An upgrade is a manual, backed-up operator flow: update the Composer project against a reviewed lockfile, run drush updatedb, and verify the site and cron.
What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?
The template manifest asks for 2048 MB of RAM, two CPU cores and 10 GB of disk as a floor for Drupal CMS, MariaDB and the gateway together. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung, with real headroom above that floor for content, media and backups as your site grows.
What survives a restart?
Everything on drupal_db, drupal_code and drupal_files, because all three are persistent named volumes — content, accounts, custom code, themes, uploaded media and configuration all persist across an xCloud Restart.
Is xCloud officially partnered with Drupal?
No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Drupal project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Drupal CMS distribution.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
