What is Ghost?
Ghost is an open-source, self-hosted publishing platform for blogs, newsletters, memberships and creator websites — posts, pages, tags, themes, a full API and built-in membership tooling. This template deploys the Ghost 6 line.
Is Ghost free?
Yes — Ghost's core is free and open source under the MIT licence. What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the software itself.
Can I self-host Ghost?
Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the official Ghost image alongside a private MySQL database, generates the database credentials, mounts two persistent volumes, and publishes Ghost over HTTPS on your domain in minutes instead of assembled by hand.
Who becomes the site owner, and how do I sign in?
There is no generated administrator account. Open the Admin URL from your Credentials panel after deployment and complete Create your account directly inside Ghost — that account is yours to create, not something xCloud shows you in a Credentials panel.
What does xCloud configure automatically?
The Ghost image, a private MySQL 8.4 database with a generated name, user and password, persistent storage, the domain and the HTTPS route. Only Ghost itself is published — the MySQL sidecar has no port published at all and is reachable only from Ghost over the internal network.
Are the Ghost and MySQL images pinned by digest, like other OneClick apps?
No. This template pins both by tag — ghost:6-alpine and mysql:8.4 — which track the latest patch release within that line, not an immutable digest. A major-version upgrade still requires a manifest change and a catalog re-sync, and existing installs are unaffected by that re-sync; only a new install picks up the newer image.
Do I need to configure email to use Ghost?
Not to publish, but yes for member signup magic links, newsletters and admin-invite emails — none of those work until you add your own SMTP settings in the site's Environment editor and redeploy. This template does not configure mail for you.
What should I back up?
Both ghost_content and ghost_db together, from the same point in time — ghost_content holds themes and uploaded images, while ghost_db holds the MySQL database with your posts, pages, members and settings. Restoring only one is not a recoverable site.
Does xCloud automatically back up or update Ghost?
No. Take a coordinated backup of both volumes and review Ghost's release notes before changing versions. A catalog re-sync only affects new installations, never a running one.
What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?
The template manifest asks for 1024 MB of RAM, one CPU core and 4 GB of disk as a floor for Ghost and its MySQL sidecar together. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung, with real headroom above that floor for growing content, images and a member list.
What survives a restart?
Everything on ghost_content and ghost_db, because both are persistent named volumes. Restarting the container does not touch your posts, pages, themes, uploaded images, members or database.
Is xCloud officially partnered with Ghost or TryGhost?
No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Ghost/TryGhost project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Ghost project.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
