Self-hosting a visual CMS normally means a container, a generated encryption key, persistent storage, a domain and a certificate before you've built a single page. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

    Open /admin immediately and complete first-owner setup with your email and a password of at least 12 characters — until you do, anyone who reaches setup can claim the owner account. Then open the visual editor, build a page, and publish it.

What is Instatic?

Instatic is an open-source, self-hosted visual CMS. You create a site and owner account, build pages in a visual editor with page navigation and responsive previews, and publish HTML that visitors can read without signing in. This template deploys version 0.0.18.

Is Instatic ready for production, multi-user sites?

Treat it as beta. Instatic is pre-1.0, and upstream does not recommend it for hostile multi-user environments without careful operator review. Good starting points are personal sites, small studio projects, visual prototypes and operator-reviewed content sites — not an unreviewed enterprise multi-tenant platform.

Is Instatic free?

Yes — the packaged source is MIT-licensed. What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the software itself. Domains, off-server storage, third-party AI usage and any separately purchased services are additional where used.

Who becomes the administrator, and how do I sign in?

There is no generated administrator password. Open /admin immediately after installation and complete first-owner setup yourself — enter the site name, your email, an optional display name, and a password of at least 12 characters. Until that step is complete, anyone who reaches setup can claim the owner account.

What does xCloud configure automatically?

The pinned interim Instatic image, a generated INSTATIC_SECRET_KEY, persistent storage for the database and uploads, the domain and the HTTPS route. Container port 3001 stays bound to localhost — only xCloud's nginx reverse proxy is exposed.

What should I back up?

Both named volumes together — instatic_data (SQLite: site configuration, users, pages, auth state) and instatic_uploads (media) — plus the INSTATIC_SECRET_KEY. Use a consistent SQLite snapshot, or stop writes before copying the database and WAL files, and keep an off-server copy.

Backups in xCloud

What happens if I lose the encryption key?

Losing or changing INSTATIC_SECRET_KEY makes saved provider credentials and TOTP MFA seeds unreadable, and they must be re-entered or re-enrolled. Restart and recreation persistence were tested; a full backup export and restore drill was not, so don't treat backups as certified until you've tested a restore yourself.

Does xCloud automatically back up or update Instatic?

No. The image is pinned; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Before upgrading, back up both volumes and the key, review upstream migration and security notes, and test the new image and a rollback plan.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?

The template's committed catalog minimum is 512 MB RAM, one CPU core and 2 GB of disk. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung, with real headroom above that floor for uploads, plugins and concurrent editors.

What survives a restart?

Everything on instatic_data and instatic_uploads, because both are persistent named volumes. Restarting the container does not touch your database, pages, uploaded media or generated encryption key.

Are AI features included?

Instatic's optional upstream AI integrations are not prepaid or preconfigured by this template. Bring and secure any required provider credentials and budget separately.

Is xCloud officially partnered with Instatic?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Instatic project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Instatic project.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
