Engram Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Engram hosting gives your AI coding agents one shared brain across machines. Deploy Engram Cloud v2.2.1 as a self-hosted AI agent memory server: xCloud runs the pinned image beside a private PostgreSQL 16 database, generates the cloud token, the dashboard admin token and the signing secret, mounts a persistent volume and publishes the dashboard and sync API over HTTPS in minutes, so each client only needs a URL and a token.

  • No terminal
  • No technical skills needed
  • No lock-in, cancel anytime

What is Engram?

Self-hosted Engram Cloud is the optional sync server and browser dashboard for Engram, a Go binary that gives AI coding agents persistent memory in local SQLite with full-text search, exposed through MCP, CLI, HTTP API and a TUI. The README describes the Cloud side as shared, project-scoped memory across machines, with local SQLite staying authoritative. It is a self-hosted take on persistent memory for AI coding agents, in place of hosted AI memory services, under the MIT licence.

On xCloud the template runs the ghcr.io/gentleman-programming/engram v2.2.1 image beside PostgreSQL 16, both pinned by immutable digest, with an engram_db volume. HTTPS is published on your domain, the dashboard is at /dashboard, and tokens are generated at install. Sync is not automatic: each client enrols projects explicitly.

From Sign-Up to a Live Engram Hosting Server In 3 Easy Steps

Running Engram Cloud yourself means a Docker host, a domain, a certificate, a database and matching tokens on every machine. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick Engram from the OneClick catalog. Choose a domain and a server.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

Set Allowed projects to the project names that may sync, or * for any project. We generate the tokens and database credentials and publish the stack over HTTPS.

  3. Step 03

Save Tokens And Enrol Your Projects

Save the cloud and admin tokens from your installation credentials, sign in at /dashboard, then point each machine at your server and sync its projects.

Everything Engram Does, On Your Own Server

Engram runs in full here: shared AI agent memory, a browser dashboard and HTTPS, on infrastructure you control.

  • Shared Memory Across Machines

Local Engram clients push memories to your Cloud, and a fresh client on another machine pulls them back.

  • Works With Your Agents

On the client side Engram supports Claude Code, OpenCode, Gemini CLI, Codex, VS Code (Copilot), Cursor and Windsurf.

  • Local-First By Design

Each client's local SQLite store stays authoritative. Cloud adds replication and browser visibility on top.

  • Browser Dashboard

Browse projects and memories at /dashboard, plus an Admin area for project sync controls, users, health and the audit log.

  • Only Enrolled Projects Sync

Access is limited to the projects you list, so only enrolled projects can sync. Requests without a valid token are refused.

  • Memory Survives A Restart

Memories and dashboard sessions survive an xCloud Restart, because all Cloud data lives in the Postgres volume.

Everything You Need To Run Your Shared Memory 24/7

Managed hosting for Engram Cloud, so the parts that keep your agents' memory online are not your problem.

  • Engram v2.2.1 deployed instantly
  • Cloud and admin tokens generated
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Private Postgres 16 store
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With Engram

  • Share project memory across your machines

Push what an agent learned on a laptop to your server, then pull it onto a desktop or a fresh checkout so the next session starts informed.

  • Give a team the same project memory

Let teammates sync the same enrolled project to one server you control, instead of each agent starting from nothing.

  • Browse memories in a dashboard

Open /dashboard to see projects and memories in the browser, and use the Admin area for project sync controls, users, health and the audit log.

  • Restrict which projects may sync

Set the allowed projects list to named projects, so a client cannot push a project you did not list.

Engram vs Alternatives

Hosted AI memory services
A hosted service keeps your agents' memory with a vendor. Engram Cloud is MIT licensed, and here the sync server and its Postgres volume live on your own Cloud VPS.
Letta
Letta is an open-source server for stateful AI agents with persistent memory behind a REST API, with its own xCloud template. Engram focuses on coding-agent memory synced from local clients.
Basic Memory
Basic Memory is a self-hosted MCP server that keeps a searchable Markdown knowledge base for AI assistants, with its own xCloud template. Engram stores memories in SQLite and syncs them by project.
Local-only Engram
The README says Engram needs one binary and one SQLite file, with no server. Add Engram Cloud when you want the same memory on several machines or teammates.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.

I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

What is the difference between Engram and Engram Cloud?

Engram is a single Go binary that keeps persistent agent memory in local SQLite over MCP, CLI, HTTP and a TUI. Engram Cloud, run with engram cloud serve, is the optional sync server and dashboard. This app deploys the Cloud side; you keep running the client locally.

How much RAM does Engram Cloud need?

Engram Cloud's manifest minimum is 1 CPU core, 256 MB of RAM and 4 GB of disk, and QA measured about 33 MiB idle. On the 6 GB Cloud VPS this page sells, the sync API and its PostgreSQL database have ample room.

Is Engram free and open source?

Yes. Engram is MIT licensed, per the LICENSE file at the v2.2.1 tag, so no licence payment is needed. The licence covers the code, not the Engram name or logo. xCloud charges only for the dedicated Cloud VPS.

Can you run Engram Cloud with Docker?

Yes. Engram Docker hosting is pre-built on this page: the template runs the upstream ghcr.io/gentleman-programming/engram v2.2.1 image and PostgreSQL 16, both pinned by immutable digest, and HTTPS is published for the clients, so it is Engram cloud hosting on your own VPS.

How do I sign in to Engram Cloud?

Open /dashboard on your domain and paste the cloud token from the installation credentials as the bearer token. Use the separate dashboard admin token to reach the Admin area. A missing or wrong token is refused, and nobody can register publicly.

Does Engram sync all my memory automatically?

No. Sync is project-scoped: each client enrols a project explicitly and pushes or pulls it by name. The server accepts only the projects in your Allowed projects list, whose default is a wildcard that permits any project.

How do I connect a local Engram client to my server?

Export the cloud token as ENGRAM_CLOUD_TOKEN, run engram cloud config with your server URL, enrol a project, then push with engram sync --cloud --project NAME. On another machine, pull with the same command plus --import.

Which AI coding agents work with Engram?

The README names Claude Code, OpenCode, Gemini CLI, Codex, VS Code with Copilot, Antigravity, Cursor and Windsurf among MCP-compatible agents, and lists setup commands for more. They connect to the local Engram client, which then syncs to your Cloud.

What should I back up on an Engram Cloud server?

The engram_db volume, which holds all Cloud memory state, plus your environment values. Upstream provides no Cloud backup tooling, so keep each client's local SQLite backups as well, since local data stays authoritative, and test a restore.

How do I upgrade Engram Cloud?

Nothing upgrades it for you: the install stays on pinned release v2.2.1 until you adopt a newer template version. Back up the engram_db volume first, read the upstream release notes, then check dashboard sign-in and a sync afterwards.

Can I change the allowed projects later?

Yes. ENGRAM_CLOUD_ALLOWED_PROJECTS is read on every start, so edit it in the environment editor and Save and Redeploy. The same applies to the cloud token, the admin token and the JWT secret, which clients must be updated to match.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
