How much RAM does Label Studio need?

The manifest asks for 2048 MB of RAM, 2 CPU cores and 10 GB of disk as a floor. The 6 GB Cloud VPS sold on this page leaves comfortable headroom for PostgreSQL alongside the app, and the data volume grows with uploaded assets.

Is Label Studio free and open source?

Yes. Label Studio Community Edition is Apache-2.0 licensed, per the LICENSE file at the 1.23.0 tag, so you pay no licence fee, only for the dedicated Cloud VPS xCloud provides, and your projects and annotations stay on your own volumes.

How do I sign in to Label Studio for the first time?

There is no generated administrator account. Open your HTTPS URL after installation and create the first account yourself through Label Studio's own signup screen. Do it right away, then decide whether the workspace should stay open to public signup.

Is public signup enabled in Label Studio by default?

Yes, that is Label Studio's own default, and the template does not change it. If the workspace should be private, disable public signup in Organization settings once your intended users have accounts, or restrict access with xCloud Basic Authentication.

Does this include Label Studio Enterprise or Cloud features?

No. This template deploys Label Studio Community Edition only. HumanSignal Cloud, Enterprise and other commercial services or features are not included, so check the edition comparison that the upstream README links to before you rely on a particular feature.

How do I rotate the Label Studio database password?

Editing the environment values alone does not rotate the existing PostgreSQL role password. Change the role password in PostgreSQL first, then update POSTGRE_PASSWORD and POSTGRES_PASSWORD together in the Environment editor and redeploy, or database access breaks.

What should I back up on a Label Studio server?

Both volumes together, from a consistent point in time: label_studio_data for uploaded task assets and managed files, and label_studio_db for users, projects, task metadata and annotations. Keep copies off the server and test a restore.

How do I upgrade Label Studio?

Nothing upgrades it for you: the install stays on pinned releases Label Studio 1.23.0 and PostgreSQL 17.6 until you adopt a newer template version. Back up both volumes first, read the upstream migration notes, then check sign-in and a project.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
