Onyx Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Deploy Onyx hosting and run your own AI chat workspace on your own domain. xCloud runs the pinned Onyx v4.9.0 lightweight edition with a private PostgreSQL database, generates the database password and auth secret, keeps accounts, chats and uploads on a persistent volume and publishes the UI and API over HTTPS in minutes. What is Onyx?

Onyx is an open-source AI chat workspace. You connect the language model provider you prefer, then chat, build agents, group conversations into projects and upload files to use in a chat.

This template deploys Onyx's lightweight edition, where PostgreSQL is the only data service behind the app. Connectors and document search (RAG) are not part of it. The core is MIT licensed; Enterprise features in the code stay locked without a paid licence.

From Sign-Up to Your First Chat In Just 3 Easy Steps

A self-hosted AI chat workspace normally means a web container, an API container, a database, generated secrets, a domain and a certificate before the first message. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick Onyx from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server — there are no extra fields to fill in.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up the official Onyx web and backend images, pinned by immutable digest, with a private PostgreSQL database kept off the public internet, mount the onyx_db and onyx_api_logs volumes, generate the database password and auth secret, and publish it over HTTPS on your domain. The first start runs database migrations, so allow a few minutes.

  3. Step 03

Create The Admin And Add A Model

Open your HTTPS Onyx URL and register your account straight away — the first account becomes the administrator. Then open Admin Panel > Language Models, add your provider and API key, and start chatting.

Everything Onyx Does, On Your Own Server

This is Onyx's lightweight edition, running in full: chat, agents, projects and file uploads, with PostgreSQL as the only data service.

  • Chat With Your Own Provider

Add your own key in the admin panel for providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Azure or Ollama. Nothing is configured at install time and chat does not work until a provider is added.

  • Agents

Build agents and explore them from the sidebar, so recurring tasks have a purpose-built assistant instead of a blank prompt.

  • Projects For Conversations

Organise related chats into projects so work on one topic stays together.

  • File Uploads In Chats

Upload files and use them in a conversation; uploaded files are stored in the database on the persistent volume.

  • First Account Is The Admin

The first account registered becomes the administrator, and Restrict Open Sign-Up in Admin Panel > Security & Hardening closes registration to everyone else.

  • Only PostgreSQL Behind It

There is no separate cache, vector database or worker to run. PostgreSQL also serves as the cache, session and file store, and has no public port.

Everything You Need To Run Your AI Workspace 24/7

Managed hosting for Onyx, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • Onyx v4.9.0 deployed instantly
  • Official images pinned by digest
  • Database password and auth secret generated
  • Private PostgreSQL, no public ports
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With Onyx

  • Give a team a private AI chat

Run one chat workspace on your own domain, with accounts, chat history and settings kept on a server you control.

  • Switch model providers without switching tools

Add a provider and API key in the admin panel and change it later, instead of locking your conversations to one vendor's app.

  • Set up agents for repeated work

Create agents for jobs your team repeats, and keep related conversations together in projects.

  • Chat about your own files

Upload files into a conversation and ask questions about them, without a separate document-search stack to maintain.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!

I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.

I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

What is different about this edition?

It is Onyx's lightweight deployment: chat, agents, projects and file uploads, with PostgreSQL as the only data service. Connectors and document search are not included.

How do I sign in?

Create the first account on the site; it becomes the administrator. Do this right after install, because open sign-up stays on until you turn on Restrict Open Sign-Up in Admin Panel > Security & Hardening.

Which model does it use?

Whichever provider you add in Admin Panel > Language Models, using your own API key. Nothing is configured at install time, and chat does not work until a provider is added.

What runs alongside Onyx?

A private PostgreSQL database that also acts as the cache, session and file store, plus the backend and web containers. None of them has a public port; only the xCloud-managed HTTPS domain is exposed.

Why does the first start take a few minutes?

The first start runs database migrations. Give it a few minutes before opening the URL.

What should I back up?

The onyx_db volume, which holds accounts, chats, settings and uploaded files, plus the generated values in the environment. Back it up with a PostgreSQL dump or a volume copy while the stack is stopped.

What survives a restart?

Accounts, chats, settings and uploaded files on the onyx_db volume. In QA, a chat was still present after restarting all containers and signing in again.

Are the Enterprise features included?

No. This install runs the Community Edition. Enterprise code in the project is under a separate licence and stays locked unless a paid licence is applied.

Does xCloud automatically back up or update Onyx?

No. The template pins Onyx v4.9.0 by immutable digest; new installations use the pinned release and existing sites are not automatically upgraded. Back up first, read the upstream release notes, then bump the readable tag and digest together on your own schedule. Server-level backups and snapshots are available on every Cloud VPS.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?

The template's baseline asks for 2 CPU cores, 2048 MB of RAM and 16 GB of disk; measured use in QA was about 0.9 GB idle and about 1.2 GB after a chat round-trip. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung, which leaves headroom above that baseline.

Is xCloud officially partnered with Onyx?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Onyx project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Onyx project.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
