What is Artalk?

Artalk is a free, open-source, self-hosted commenting system. It provides a lightweight comment widget you embed on your own pages, plus an administration dashboard for moderating comments, users, pages and multiple sites. This template deploys version 2.10.0.

Is Artalk free?

Yes — it is free and open source under the MIT licence. What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the application itself.

Can I self-host Artalk?

Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the official immutable Artalk 2.10.0 image, mounts the artalk_data volume, generates an administrator password and application key, and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain in about five minutes instead of assembled by hand.

Is my comment data private?

Comments and visitor discussion data stay on the Cloud VPS you control, rather than passing through a third-party comment SaaS. That means data residency and access are yours to manage — it is not a specific privacy or compliance certification, so treat it as self-hosted, not audited.

Where does my comment data live?

In the artalk_data volume: Artalk's configuration, its SQLite database, uploaded images and logs all live there together, on the server you deployed.

What do I choose at install, and what does xCloud configure automatically?

You choose the administrator username, administrator email and a name for your default managed site. xCloud generates the administrator password and the APP_KEY, provisions the Artalk container, the artalk_data volume, the domain and the HTTPS route, and publishes only the Artalk web service — the app origin is bound to localhost, so the container is never directly exposed to the internet.

Can I change the administrator username, email or password later?

Editing ADMIN_USERNAME, ADMIN_EMAIL or ADMIN_PASSWORD in xCloud's Environment editor does not rotate an already-created administrator account — Artalk does not re-read those values into an existing account automatically. Change account details from within Artalk itself, or use the documented `artalk admin` CLI command.

Can I rotate APP_KEY?

Keep APP_KEY stable. It protects signed application data, and rotating it breaks existing sessions and other signed data tied to the previous key. Treat it as a value you set once and leave alone.

What are the server requirements?

The template manifest asks for 512 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 4 GB of disk as a floor, on the docker_nginx stack. This page sells the 6 GB tier, well beyond that — disk demand mostly comes from your comment volume and how many uploaded images you keep, not the application itself.

What should I back up?

The complete artalk_data volume. It holds Artalk's configuration, the SQLite database, uploaded images and logs together — back it up as one unit, since a partial restore of just the database without the matching uploads and config is not a complete recovery.

Backups in xCloud

Does xCloud automatically back up or update Artalk?

No. The template pins Artalk 2.10.0; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Back up artalk_data yourself before any upgrade, and review upstream release notes first.

What survives a restart?

Everything on artalk_data, because it is a persistent named volume. Restarting the container does not touch your configuration, database, uploaded images or logs.

Is xCloud officially partnered with Artalk?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Artalk project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Artalk project.

Can I run other apps on the same server?

Yes. It is a dedicated Cloud VPS, not a locked appliance, so you can deploy other OneClick apps or your own sites beside it as long as the resources are there.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
