What is Apprise API?
Apprise API is a free, open-source, self-hosted notification gateway. It puts one protected web interface and REST API in front of the Apprise notification library, so scripts, automations and internal tools can send notifications through a single consistent endpoint instead of integrating each provider separately. This template deploys version 1.5.1.
Is Apprise API free?
Yes — it is free and open source under the MIT licence. What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the application itself.
Can I self-host Apprise API?
Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the official immutable, multi-architecture Apprise API image, mounts its three persistent volumes, and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain in about five minutes instead of assembled by hand.
How many notification services does Apprise API support?
More than 130 notification services through the underlying Apprise library — everything from chat and messaging apps to email and custom webhooks, each addressed through its own service URL format.
Is my notification-provider configuration secure?
The web interface and API are protected by generated HTTP Basic Authentication, and configuration, attachments and plugins are stored on private persistent volumes. Notification-provider URLs can themselves carry embedded credentials — a Slack webhook token, an SMTP password baked into a service URL — so restrict who can access backups and application configuration the same way you would restrict access to any other credential store.
What does xCloud configure automatically?
The administrator username you accept or customize and a generated administrator password, a stable secret key, the Apprise API URL, the private container network, all three persistent volumes, the domain and the HTTPS route. The app origin is bound to localhost, so the container is never directly exposed to the internet.
Can I rotate the administrator password?
Yes. Unlike some other self-hosted apps, Apprise API's administrator password can be rotated deliberately through the xCloud Environment editor by updating ADMIN_USERNAME and ADMIN_PASSWORD and using Restart or Redeploy. Rotate it and you must update every API client at the same time, or its requests start failing Basic Authentication.
Can I rotate the secret key?
Keep SECRET_KEY stable unless you have a specific reason to change it. It protects signed data, and rotating it can invalidate existing signed state rather than simply refreshing security the way an administrator password rotation does.
What are the server requirements?
The template manifest asks for 512 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 4 GB of disk as a floor. This page sells the 6 GB tier, well beyond that — disk demand is mostly driven by how many attachments you store, not by the application itself.
What should I back up?
The apprise_config, apprise_attach and apprise_plugin volumes together. Configuration, attachments and optional plugins are split across the three so restoring only one or two leaves an incomplete setup — back them up as a set.
Does xCloud automatically back up or update Apprise API?
No. The template runs the official immutable Apprise API image; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Customers should schedule and test their own backups and review upstream release notes before updating.
What survives a restart?
Everything on apprise_config, apprise_attach and apprise_plugin, because all three are persistent named volumes. Restarting the container does not touch your notification configurations, attachments or plugins.
Is xCloud officially partnered with Apprise?
No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Apprise project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Apprise API project.
Can I run other apps on the same server?
Yes. It is a dedicated Cloud VPS, not a locked appliance, so you can deploy other OneClick apps or your own sites beside it as long as the resources are there.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
