What is FreshRSS?
FreshRSS is an AGPL-3.0 self-hosted RSS feed aggregator. Upstream describes it as lightweight, customizable and multi-user, with an anonymous reading mode, custom tags and an API for mobile clients. It can scrape pages that publish no feed using XPath, and it supports extensions. Run as self-hosted FreshRSS, it keeps your subscriptions and reading state on a server you control instead of in a hosted reader account.
On xCloud the template deploys the official FreshRSS 1.29.1 image as one container with built-in SQLite, so there is no separate database. Configuration, users, subscriptions and reading state sit on the freshrss_data volume, and installed extensions on freshrss_extensions. The first administrator is created at install, the API is enabled, and the built-in cron refreshes feeds on the schedule you choose.
From Sign-Up to a Live FreshRSS In Just 3 Easy Steps
A FreshRSS server normally means a container, a data volume, a cron job for refreshing feeds, a domain and a certificate before the first article appears. This is the same result without assembling any of it.
Step 01
Sign Up
Create your xCloud account and pick FreshRSS from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and server, an administrator username, interface language, timezone and how often feeds refresh.
Step 02
We Deploy It For You
One click. We start freshrss/freshrss 1.29.1, pinned by digest, with built-in SQLite, mount freshrss_data and freshrss_extensions, switch on the in-container cron refresh and publish it over HTTPS.
Step 03
Add Your First Feed
Sign in with the generated administrator credentials, open Subscription management, add an RSS or Atom feed, run a refresh and confirm that entries appear before you invite other users.
Everything FreshRSS Does, On Your Own Server
The features upstream documents run here, with your subscriptions and reading state stored on volumes you control.
RSS And Atom Aggregation
Add feeds from Subscription management and read them in one place on desktop or mobile, with custom tags to organise what you follow.
Multi-User With Anonymous Mode
FreshRSS supports several users, each with their own subscriptions, and an optional anonymous reading mode. Review authentication settings before inviting anyone.
API For Mobile Clients
The template enables the FreshRSS API at install. Client apps need their own API credentials, because the normal web password is not automatically an API password.
Scheduled Feed Refresh
A built-in cron job refreshes feeds every 15 minutes, every 30 minutes or hourly, whichever you pick at install, and WebSub can push updates from compatible sources.
Scraping For Sites Without Feeds
FreshRSS can pull articles from websites that publish no RSS or Atom feed, using XPath, and it also reads JSON documents.
Extensions On A Dedicated Volume
Add extensions to tune the reader. They are installed on the freshrss_extensions volume, so they survive a restart and belong in your backups.
Everything You Need To Run Your RSS Reader 24/7
Managed hosting for FreshRSS, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.
- FreshRSS 1.29.1 deployed instantly
- Official image pinned by digest

What You Can Do With FreshRSS
Follow your sources without a hosted reader
A researcher or journalist subscribes to blogs, journals and news sites in one reader, with subscriptions and read state kept on their own server.
Run one reader for a small team
A newsroom or study group gives each member a user account, so everyone follows their own feeds from one FreshRSS instance behind a single domain.
Read feeds from sites that have none
Someone tracking a changelog or notice board that publishes no RSS sets up XPath scraping, so those updates arrive beside regular feeds.
Read on your phone with a client app
A commuter connects a mobile reader that talks to the FreshRSS API using separate API credentials, while the server handles the scheduled refreshes.
FreshRSS vs Alternatives
- Feedly
- FreshRSS on xCloud keeps users, subscriptions and reading state in your own freshrss_data volume, and the refresh interval is set by you at install.
- Inoreader
- FreshRSS supports extensions on their own volume and XPath scraping for sites without feeds, and it runs on a server you control rather than under a vendor account.
- Miniflux
- Miniflux also has an xCloud OneClick page. Weigh FreshRSS's multi-user mode, anonymous reading, extensions and XPath scraping against your needs before you decide.
- Tiny Tiny RSS
- FreshRSS here is a single container with built-in SQLite, which keeps the deployment small when you do not need an external database server.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.
xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian GeovannyI've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.
Kevin PinedaI'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting
Leo KooHow Cloud Nine Web Elevated Client Experience While Streamlining Hosting Operations using xCloud
Ed EllinghamxCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.
Dumitru ButucelxCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.
Waqar AhmedTrust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍
Rahul SinghSo far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.
Massimo VillaCame from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson ElI've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony LewisI came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowellI like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose
David McCanHow Kevin Heinrichs Cut Hosting Costs by 84% While Running WooCommerce & Node.js Sites Efficiently
Kevin HeinrichsI had 150 sites on cloudways and am in the process of moving them to xcloud. Much faster and better priced.
Dan SpinozaDear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.
Rahil MaknojiaCame from runcloud. Tried xcloud and never came back.

Blaine MooreFrequently Asked Questions
Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.
Is FreshRSS free?
Yes. FreshRSS is open source under the AGPL-3.0 licence, so the software has no licence fee. You pay for the Cloud VPS it runs on, and its light footprint leaves room to run other OneClick apps on the same server. Upstream also states that it comes with no warranty.
How do I self-host FreshRSS with Docker?
The template does it for you. It runs the official freshrss/freshrss 1.29.1 image with built-in SQLite, mounts the freshrss_data and freshrss_extensions volumes, and adds your domain and HTTPS. FreshRSS Docker hosting here means no Compose file and no reverse proxy to write.
How often does FreshRSS refresh feeds?
On the schedule you pick at install: every 15 minutes, every 30 minutes (the default) or hourly. The template turns on the official in-container cron path for that. FreshRSS can also receive WebSub push notifications from compatible sources. Many feeds and short intervals can need more resources.
How do I back up FreshRSS?
Back up both volumes together. The freshrss_data volume holds configuration, users, subscriptions, the SQLite data and reading state; freshrss_extensions holds installed extensions. Quiesce FreshRSS or snapshot SQLite consistently before copying, keep a backup off the server, and test a restore.
How do I update FreshRSS?
There is no automatic update. FreshRSS 1.29.1 stays pinned by tag and digest on an existing site, because catalog changes only reach fresh installs. Back up both volumes, read the release notes and any database migrations, then replace the image while keeping the same volumes. Never run docker compose down -v.
What is the difference between FreshRSS and Miniflux?
Both are self-hosted feed readers, and xCloud has a OneClick page for each. By its README, FreshRSS offers a multi-user mode with an anonymous option, custom tags, extensions and XPath scraping. Read Miniflux's documentation to compare the remaining differences against your needs.
Does FreshRSS support extensions?
Yes. Upstream supports extensions for tuning the reader, and this template keeps them on a dedicated freshrss_extensions volume so they persist across restarts. Include that volume in every backup, and review an extension's source before installing it, since it runs inside your FreshRSS server.
Do mobile apps work with FreshRSS?
Upstream provides an API for mobile clients, and the template enables it at install. Each client needs its own API credentials, because your web password is not automatically an API password. Check your chosen app's documentation for how it connects, as this page names no specific apps.
Is there a FreshRSS cloud service I need?
No. Nothing here depends on a hosted FreshRSS account. The reader runs on your own Cloud VPS, your subscriptions sit on its freshrss_data volume, and you sign in with the administrator account created at install. xCloud and the FreshRSS project have no partnership.
What are the server requirements?
FreshRSS needs only 512 MB RAM, a single core and 2 GB of storage on paper. Feed count, retention, refresh frequency, full-text retrieval and extensions can raise that, and the 6 GB tier sold here gives a small group of readers plenty of room.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
