What is CodeX Docs?

CodeX Docs is a free, open-source documentation and knowledge-base site built on the Editor.js block editor. You write pages in blocks, nest them to build a structure, and publish them at readable URLs that anyone can open.

Self-hosting it means the whole site runs as one container on your own server. There is no database to operate: pages and uploads sit on two persistent volumes, and editing is protected by a single editor password.

How do I sign in to edit?

Open /auth on your site and enter the Editor Password from the installation credentials. There is no username.

Do I need a database?

No. Pages are stored in the app's built-in file database on a persistent volume, and there is no other service to run.

Can readers see my pages without signing in?

Yes. Published pages are public; only creating and editing needs the Editor Password.

What should I back up?

Both named volumes together: codex_docs_db (pages) and codex_docs_uploads (uploaded images and files).

Backups in xCloud

How do I change the editor password?

Change it in the site's Environment editor and Save & Redeploy. The session secret is changed the same way, and changing it signs out every editor session.

Can I change the site title or add a menu?

The Site Title is asked for at install. Other options such as a description or start page can be added as APP_CONFIG_* keys in the Environment editor, where each value must be JSON.

Is the upstream default password still in place?

No. The upstream default password was verified not to work on this template; sign-in uses the generated Editor Password.

Does xCloud automatically back up or update CodeX Docs?

No. The template pins CodeX Docs 2.2.5 by immutable digest; new installations use the pinned release and existing sites are not automatically upgraded. Back up first, read the upstream release notes, then bump the readable tag and digest together on your own schedule. Server-level backups and snapshots are available on every Cloud VPS.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?

The template's baseline asks for 1 CPU core, 128 MB of RAM and 1 GB of disk; measured idle use in QA was about 50 MiB. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung, with real headroom above that baseline.

What survives a restart?

Pages on the codex_docs_db volume and files on codex_docs_uploads are persistent named volumes, so they survive an xCloud Restart.

Is xCloud officially partnered with CodeX Docs?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the CodeX Docs project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source CodeX Docs project.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
