ArchiveBox Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

ArchiveBox hosting on xCloud gives you a self-hosted web archive on your own domain. Deploy ArchiveBox in one click and xCloud brings up the pinned image with SQLite, a persistent archivebox_data volume, a generated administrator password and HTTPS. Add a public URL you are authorized to archive and keep HTML, PDF, screenshot and media snapshots that stay on a server you own.

What is ArchiveBox?

Self-hosted ArchiveBox is an open-source tool to collect, save and view websites offline. You feed it URLs one at a time or in bulk, and it keeps snapshots in several formats, including HTML, PDF, PNG and WARC, and fetches media with yt-dlp. Upstream notes that Archive.org requires archives to be public, whereas ArchiveBox lets you archive privately. It can import from bookmark services such as Pocket and Pinboard, and it is MIT licensed.

On xCloud the template runs archivebox/archivebox 0.7.4, pinned by tag and immutable digest, with ArchiveBox's SQLite database, served through xCloud's nginx with HTTPS on your domain. Configuration, database, index, pages, screenshots, PDFs and media all live on one volume, archivebox_data. xCloud generates the administrator password. Anonymous access is disabled, and the optional Sonic search, browser and scheduler sidecars are not included.

From Sign-Up to a Live ArchiveBox In Just 3 Easy Steps

Self-hosting ArchiveBox normally means containers, a database, a domain and a certificate before anything works. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick ArchiveBox from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and an administrator username — the password is generated for you.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up archivebox/archivebox 0.7.4, pinned by tag and immutable digest, with its SQLite database, mount the archivebox_data volume, generate the administrator password and publish it over HTTPS.

  3. Step 03

    Start Using It

Open your HTTPS URL, sign in with the generated administrator credentials, use Add to submit a public URL you are authorized to archive, then open the snapshot once extraction finishes.

Everything ArchiveBox Does, On Your Own Server

ArchiveBox runs here on its SQLite baseline, with every snapshot, index and media file on a volume you control.

  • Multi-Format Snapshots

Each URL is saved in several redundant formats: HTML, PDF, PNG screenshot and WARC, so a page can still be opened after the live site changes.

  • Media And Article Extraction

Video and audio links are fetched with yt-dlp and news articles are reduced to their body text, title, author and featured images.

  • Plain Folders On Disk

Archives use normal filesystem folders rather than a proprietary format, all inside the archivebox_data volume you own.

  • Bookmark And Feed Imports

Upstream imports from browser bookmarks and history, RSS feeds and bookmark services such as Pocket and Pinboard.

  • Private By Default

The template disables anonymous index, snapshot and URL-submission access, and leaves Archive.org submissions off by default.

  • SQLite, No Extra Services

This baseline uses ArchiveBox's supported SQLite database and leaves out the optional Sonic search, browser and scheduler sidecars.

Everything You Need To Run Your Service 24/7

Managed hosting for ArchiveBox, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • ArchiveBox deployed instantly
  • Image pinned by tag and digest
  • Administrator password generated for you
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With ArchiveBox

  • Preserve pages you quote or cite

Save a page as HTML, PDF and a screenshot before it changes or disappears. Upstream lists journalists, lawyers and researchers among the people who archive for fact-checking, evidence and collection.

  • Back up your browser bookmarks

Import bookmarks, browser history or an RSS feed so the pages behind them are kept as snapshots on your own disk, instead of leaving only dead links when a site goes offline.

  • Download media from video links

Submit a video or audio link and ArchiveBox fetches the media with its subtitles, description and thumbnail, using yt-dlp, and stores it alongside the page snapshot in the same folder.

  • Archive privately, not on Archive.org

Keep copies inside your own organisation. The template leaves submissions to Archive.org off by default and disables anonymous index and snapshot access, so only signed-in users see the archive.

ArchiveBox vs Alternatives

Pocket
Compared with Pocket, ArchiveBox is a bulk archiver rather than a reading app: it imports from Pocket and similar services, then preserves the pages as files you keep on your own volume.
Wayback Machine
The Wayback Machine is Archive.org's free central archive, where upstream notes archives must be public. ArchiveBox stores snapshots privately on your server and can save content Archive.org does not capture.
wallabag
Compared with wallabag, also on xCloud, ArchiveBox is aimed at preserving full snapshots in HTML, PDF, screenshot and media form rather than at a reading experience.
Linkwarden
Compared with Linkwarden, also on xCloud, ArchiveBox concentrates on capturing pages in durable formats such as WARC and PDF, with filesystem folders you can browse directly.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson El
I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

How do I self-host ArchiveBox with Docker?

This template does it for you. ArchiveBox Docker hosting here means the archivebox/archivebox 0.7.4 image pinned by tag and digest, one named volume at /data, a generated administrator password and HTTPS on your domain, so you never touch a compose file or a proxy config.

What formats does ArchiveBox save?

Upstream lists HTML, PDF, PNG screenshots, WARC and SingleFile for web pages, MP3 or MP4 with subtitles for video and audio links, article text for news pages and cloned source for Git links. Capture is heavy on CPU and storage, so large pages take time.

Can ArchiveBox import from Pocket?

Upstream lists Pocket and Pinboard among the bookmark services it can import from, alongside browser bookmarks, history and RSS feeds. This template documents adding URLs from the web UI. Bulk imports use ArchiveBox's own command line, which is not set up for you.

How much disk space does ArchiveBox need?

The manifest asks for 2048 MB of RAM, one CPU core and 10 GB of disk as a floor. ArchiveBox cloud hosting here starts at the 6 GB tier, which includes 100 GB of NVMe storage. Large pages, media extraction and a growing archive can need substantially more.

How do I back up ArchiveBox?

Take a backup of the whole archivebox_data volume as one unit. It holds the SQLite database, configuration, index, pages, screenshots, PDFs and media. Stop writes or use a consistent snapshot before copying, and test a restore separately, because partial folders without the database leave an incomplete archive.

How do I update ArchiveBox?

The image is pinned by tag and immutable digest, so xCloud does not move you to a new release by itself. Back up archivebox_data, read the upstream release notes and migration guidance, then test the upgrade and a restore on a disposable installation before changing a live site.

Is ArchiveBox free?

Yes. ArchiveBox is open source under the MIT licence, needs no online sign-up and carries no licence fee. Your xCloud bill is the Cloud VPS that holds your archive, billed monthly with no lock-in, so storage for a growing archive is the cost to watch.

Is ArchiveBox the same as the Wayback Machine?

No. Upstream describes Archive.org as a free central archive that requires archives to be public and cannot save every type of content. ArchiveBox is your own copy on your own server, with this template leaving Archive.org submissions disabled by default.

Is my ArchiveBox archive public?

No. The template disables anonymous index, snapshot and URL-submission access, so visitors must sign in with the administrator account first. Only submit public URLs you are authorized to archive, and avoid sharing the generated administrator password beyond the people who need it.

Is ArchiveBox on xCloud run by the ArchiveBox project?

No. xCloud runs the server and deploys the upstream archivebox/archivebox image; the ArchiveBox project is independent, and the ArchiveBox wiki and community remain the place for questions about capture options and extractors. This template pins the upstream 0.7.4 release by tag and digest.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
