What is Blinko?
Self-hosted Blinko is an AI-powered card note-taking project for people who want to capture and organize fleeting thoughts quickly. Notes are stored as plain text with full Markdown support, and its RAG-based retrieval lets you search them with natural-language queries. Upstream stresses data ownership: your notes live in your own self-hosted environment. It is licensed GPL-3.0.
On xCloud the template runs blinkospace/blinko 1.8.8, pinned by immutable digest, with a private PostgreSQL 16 sidecar, reached through xCloud's nginx over HTTPS on your domain. xCloud generates the database name, user, password and NextAuth secret. Data lives on two volumes, blinko_db and blinko_data. The first account becomes the super administrator and public registration is disabled afterwards. AI features need a model provider whose credentials and costs are yours.
From Sign-Up to a Live Blinko In Just 3 Easy Steps
Self-hosting Blinko normally means containers, a database, a domain and a certificate before anything works. This is the same result without assembling any of it.
Step 01
Sign Up
Create your xCloud account and pick Blinko from the OneClick catalog. Takes 30 seconds — no server to prepare.
Step 02
We Deploy It For You
One click. We bring up Blinko 1.8.8, pinned by immutable digest, with a private PostgreSQL 16 database, mount the blinko_data and blinko_db volumes, generate the database credentials and publish it over HTTPS.
Step 03
Start Using It
Open your HTTPS URL, choose Sign up and create the first account, which becomes the super administrator. Then jot down a first note or task and review settings before enabling any AI provider.
Everything Blinko Does, On Your Own Server
Blinko runs here with its own PostgreSQL 16 database, and every note, task and attachment stays on volumes you control.
Card-Style Markdown Notes
Capture ideas instantly as plain-text cards with full Markdown support, so a fleeting thought is saved the moment it strikes.
Natural-Language Note Search
Upstream's RAG retrieval lets you search notes with plain-language queries. It needs an AI model provider that you configure and pay for yourself.
Tasks And Attachments
Keep tasks next to notes and attach files, with local attachment data stored under the blinko_data volume.
You Own The Data
Notes, accounts and settings sit in a PostgreSQL database on your own server, not in a vendor's cloud workspace.
Private PostgreSQL Included
A PostgreSQL 16 sidecar holds the relational data and is reachable only on the install's private network.
Registration Locked After Setup
The first account becomes the super administrator, and public registration is disabled afterwards unless you turn it on.
Everything You Need To Run Your Service 24/7
Managed hosting for Blinko, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.
- Blinko deployed instantly
- Image pinned by immutable digest
- Database credentials generated for you
- Free SSL certificate
- Server backups and snapshots
- Server security updates included
- 30+ server locations
- Unused balance refunded
What You Can Do With Blinko
Run a self-hosted note taking app
Keep personal or team notes and tasks on a server you control, behind your own domain and HTTPS, with registration closed once the first administrator exists.
Capture fleeting ideas in seconds
Open the app, type a card and move on. Notes are plain text with Markdown, so a half-formed thought is saved immediately and can be tidied up later.
Search notes in plain language
With an AI provider you configure, upstream's RAG retrieval answers natural-language queries over your notes. The provider's credentials and any usage costs stay with you, not xCloud.
Keep attachments beside your notes
Attach files to notes and keep them on your own server. Local attachment data lives in the blinko_data volume, so back it up together with the database to keep attachments and notes in step.
Blinko vs Alternatives
- Notion
- Compared with Notion, Blinko is narrower: card-style Markdown notes and tasks stored in a PostgreSQL database on your own server, with AI features only through a model provider you supply.
- Evernote
- Compared with Evernote, Blinko keeps notes as plain text with Markdown on infrastructure you control, and upstream emphasises data ownership in a self-hosted environment.
- Memos
- Compared with Memos, also on xCloud, Blinko offers RAG-based natural-language retrieval over notes, which relies on an AI provider that you configure yourself.
- Trilium Notes
- Compared with Trilium Notes, also on xCloud, Blinko favours quick card capture and tasks as plain-text Markdown cards, stored in a PostgreSQL database on your server.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.
xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian GeovannyI've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.
Kevin PinedaI'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting
Leo KooHow Cloud Nine Web Elevated Client Experience While Streamlining Hosting Operations using xCloud
Ed EllinghamxCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.
Dumitru ButucelxCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.
Waqar AhmedTrust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍
Rahul SinghSo far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.
Massimo VillaCame from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson ElI've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony LewisI came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowellI like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose
David McCanHow Kevin Heinrichs Cut Hosting Costs by 84% While Running WooCommerce & Node.js Sites Efficiently
Kevin HeinrichsI had 150 sites on cloudways and am in the process of moving them to xcloud. Much faster and better priced.
Dan SpinozaDear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.
Rahil MaknojiaCame from runcloud. Tried xcloud and never came back.

Gary MoodyxCloud gave me what no other hosting platform could: the flexibility of a VPS with the convenience of managed WordPress. As a solo founder running an entire business on one server, that combination is an important unfair advantage.
Jorge de los Reyes MartínezI use Server Avatar and xCloud and I'll sooner use xCloud than Server Avatar personally.

Blaine MooreFrequently Asked Questions
Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.
Is Blinko free?
Yes. Blinko is open source under the GPL-3.0 licence, so the software carries no fee. The xCloud bill covers the Cloud VPS and its upkeep. Any AI provider you connect bills you separately for its own usage.
How do I self-host Blinko with Docker?
This template does it for you. Blinko Docker hosting here means the blinkospace/blinko image pinned by immutable digest, a private PostgreSQL 16 container, two named volumes and HTTPS on your domain, without hand-written compose or database setup.
Does Blinko need PostgreSQL?
Yes, and this template provides it. A private PostgreSQL 16 sidecar stores accounts, notes, tasks and settings, reachable only on the install's private network. xCloud generates its name, user and password, and the database volume is blinko_db.
Does Blinko need an AI API key?
Only for AI features. Notes, tasks and attachments work without one. To use AI-assisted retrieval you configure a model provider in Blinko's settings, and its credentials and any resulting usage costs are yours. Keep those keys out of notes and screenshots.
What is the difference between Blinko and Memos?
Both run on xCloud as OneClick apps. Upstream describes Blinko as an AI-powered card note project with RAG-based natural-language retrieval, plus tasks and attachments in this template. Memos has its own documentation, so compare it there.
How do I back up Blinko?
Take a backup of both named volumes as one recovery set. blinko_db holds accounts, notes, tasks and settings, and blinko_data holds application files under /app/.blinko, including local attachments. Quiesce writes or use PostgreSQL-aware tooling, and test a restore.
How do I update Blinko?
Blinko stays on the 1.8.8 digest chosen at install, and a catalog re-sync reaches new installations only, so xCloud does not upgrade it for you. Back up both volumes, read the upstream release notes and database migrations, then recreate the containers without deleting the volumes.
Does Blinko support Markdown?
Yes. Upstream stores notes as plain text with full Markdown support for quick formatting. Because notes are plain text cards, capturing a thought is fast, and you can format and link ideas later without leaving the app.
Can other people sign up to my Blinko?
Not by default. The first account created becomes the super administrator, and public registration is then disabled unless the administrator turns it on in Blinko. Use a unique password for that first account and keep it private.
How much RAM does Blinko need?
The catalog minimum is 1024 MB of RAM, one CPU core and 5 GB of disk. Blinko cloud hosting on xCloud starts at the 6 GB tier. Attachment volume, note count, indexing, AI features and PostgreSQL growth can all require more memory and storage.
Is Blinko on xCloud run by the Blinko project?
No. xCloud runs the server and deploys the upstream blinkospace/blinko 1.8.8 image with its PostgreSQL database; the Blinko project is independent, and questions about AI settings and features belong with Blinko's own documentation. Any AI provider you connect is also your own account, billed to you.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
