GoAway Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

GoAway hosting gives you a DNS sinkhole with a web dashboard, query logs and custom block lists on a server you control. Deploy GoAway 0.63.17 as a self-hosted DNS sinkhole: xCloud runs the pinned image as a single container with embedded SQLite, generates the admin password, mounts persistent volumes and publishes the dashboard over HTTPS, with DNS on allocated ports that you open in your own firewall.

What is GoAway?

Self-hosted GoAway is a lightweight DNS sinkhole for blocking unwanted domains at the network level, so ads, trackers and malicious domains are stopped before they reach your devices. Its README lists DNS-level domain blocking, a web-based admin dashboard, customizable blocking rules, real-time statistics and a low resource footprint, and warns that it is still version 0.x and subject to major changes. It stands in for a hosted DNS filtering service, under the MIT licence.

On xCloud the template runs the pommee/goaway 0.63.17 image as a single container, pinned by immutable digest, with goaway_config and goaway_data volumes. The dashboard is published over HTTPS. DNS is not on port 53: it uses allocated UDP and TCP ports on the server IP, and you open them in your own firewall.

From Sign-Up to a Live GoAway Install In Just 3 Easy Steps

Self-hosting a DNS sinkhole normally means a container, a certificate, a generated admin password and two open firewall ports before a single device is protected. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account, pick GoAway from the OneClick catalog and select a domain — no extra fields, xCloud generates the credentials.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up the pinned GoAway 0.63.17 image, generate the admin password, and publish the dashboard over HTTPS with DNS on allocated UDP and TCP ports, shown in the protected installation credentials.

  3. Step 03

Sign In And Open Your DNS Ports

Open the HTTPS GoAway URL and sign in as admin; the first start downloads the block list and can take a few minutes. Open the UDP and TCP DNS ports in your firewall for your trusted clients only, then point a custom-port-capable DNS forwarder at the server.

Everything GoAway Does, On Your Own Server

GoAway runs in full here — DNS-level blocking, the web dashboard, query logs and custom lists, on infrastructure you control.

  • Network-Wide Ad And Tracker Blocking

Block ads, trackers and malware domains network-wide; the default block list loads on first start.

  • Dashboard With Query Logs And Custom Lists

Web dashboard with query logs, per-client views and custom allow and block lists.

  • Verified End To End

Verified end to end: a custom blocked domain and a default-list domain both answered 0.0.0.0 over DNS.

  • Embedded SQLite, No Database To Manage

Embedded SQLite storage, so there is no database to manage.

  • Works Behind Your Own DNS Forwarder

Works as the upstream behind a DNS forwarder (dnsmasq, Unbound, dnscrypt-proxy, systemd-resolved) that supports a custom port.

  • Restart-Safe Settings And Lists

Settings and lists live on the goaway_config and goaway_data volumes; in QA a custom blocked domain and the admin login survived a container restart.

Everything You Need To Run Your DNS Sinkhole 24/7

Managed hosting for GoAway, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • GoAway 0.63.17 deployed instantly
  • Generated admin password
  • HTTPS dashboard, DNS on allocated ports
  • Persistent config and query log storage
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With GoAway

  • Block ads and trackers for a whole network

Point a DNS forwarder at your GoAway server so every device behind it has unwanted domains blocked before they load.

  • See what your devices look up

Use the real-time statistics and query log to find which domains are queried most, and keep that log on your own server.

  • Write your own block rules

Add custom allow and block lists so you decide which domains are filtered, instead of accepting a fixed vendor list.

  • Filter DNS for a small group

Restrict the firewall to the addresses of your own clients and run one resolver for a household or a small office.

GoAway vs Alternatives

Hosted DNS filtering services
GoAway is MIT licensed, and here the resolver and its query log of every domain your devices look up run on your own Cloud VPS.
Pi-hole
Pi-hole is a self-hosted DNS sinkhole. GoAway is another one, packaged here as a single container with embedded SQLite and its own dashboard.
AdGuard Home
AdGuard Home is another self-hosted DNS filter. Compare its feature set with GoAway's, which is still at version 0.x, before choosing.
Blocky
Blocky is a self-hosted DNS proxy and ad-blocker with its own xCloud template. Compare it with GoAway if you prefer file-based configuration over a dashboard.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson El
I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

How much RAM does GoAway need?

The manifest asks for 1 CPU core, 256 MB of RAM and 2 GB of disk as a floor. The 6 GB Cloud VPS sold on this page leaves comfortable headroom, and the query log is what grows the disk over time.

Is GoAway free and open source?

Yes. GoAway is MIT licensed, per the LICENSE file at the v0.63.17 tag, so there is no licence fee. Upstream warns it is still version 0.x with bugs to be expected. xCloud bills only for the dedicated Cloud VPS.

Can you run GoAway with Docker?

Yes, and this is GoAway Docker hosting prepared for you: the template runs the pommee/goaway 0.63.17 image as one container, pinned by immutable digest, with two volumes and HTTPS for the dashboard, so it works as GoAway cloud hosting on your own VPS.

What is the difference between GoAway and Pi-hole?

Both are self-hosted DNS sinkholes. GoAway is a single container with embedded SQLite, its own dashboard, query log and list management, and is still at version 0.x. Compare maturity and features against Pi-hole before moving a whole network.

How do I sign in to GoAway?

Use the username admin and the generated password from the installation credentials. The password only seeds the account on first start, so change it from the dashboard rather than the Environment editor. The first start downloads the default block list and can take a few minutes.

Why is GoAway DNS not on port 53?

xCloud allocates the host ports, so DNS is on the server IP at the UDP and TCP numbers shown in the credentials. Most phones and routers can only use port 53, so use a forwarder, such as dnsmasq, that accepts a custom port.

Does xCloud open the GoAway DNS ports?

No. You open them in your own firewall, ideally only to trusted client addresses. The DNS server answers recursive queries from any address that can reach it, so an open resolver can be abused for traffic amplification.

Are all GoAway dashboard pages protected by login?

No. Upstream leaves some dashboard API endpoints open without a login: authentication state, CPU and memory, query counters, top queried domains and the live query stream. Anyone who can reach the dashboard domain can read them, so restrict access if that matters.

Does GoAway keep a log of DNS queries?

Yes. GoAway keeps a query log of every domain looked up, seven days by default, visible in the dashboard. Tell the people who use your resolver, and check the log retention setting against your own privacy obligations.

What should I back up on a GoAway server?

Both volumes together: goaway_config, with settings, upstream resolvers and the session signing key, and goaway_data, the SQLite database with users, block lists and query logs. Without the config volume the signing key is regenerated on every start.

How do I upgrade GoAway?

Nothing upgrades it for you: the install stays on pinned release 0.63.17 until you adopt a newer template version. Because upstream says 0.x releases can change a lot, back up both volumes first and read the release notes before upgrading.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
