What is AliasVault?

AliasVault is an open-source, self-hosted password and email alias manager. Vaults are encrypted in the browser, mobile app or browser extension before they are sent to the server, so the server stores ciphertext rather than readable passwords.

It supports passkeys, and lets you create random email aliases for sign-ups and manage them from the same vault. Source code is licensed under AGPL-3.0; the AliasVault trademarks are governed separately by the upstream TRADEMARKS.md.

Is this the same as the AliasVault cloud service?

No. This is the open-source server running on your own xCloud site. Vault contents are encrypted in the apps before storage, but every account uses space on your server.

How do I sign in for the first time?

Open the site and choose Create account for your own vault. The admin panel at /admin uses the admin username and the generated admin password from the credentials panel.

What runs alongside AliasVault?

Nothing. It is a single container that includes the database, API, web app, admin panel and task runner.

Can anyone create an account?

Yes, by default: open registration is the upstream default, so anyone who can reach the address can sign up. Once your own accounts exist, set PUBLIC_REGISTRATION_ENABLED=false in the Environment editor and Save & Redeploy.

How do I restrict the admin panel?

The admin panel is protected by the admin password, which locks after repeated failures. Set ADMIN_IP_ALLOWLIST to private or a list of IPs/CIDRs to restrict it further.

Can I put Basic Auth in front of it?

Not site-wide. The mobile apps and the browser extension call /api on the same address, so site-wide Basic Auth would block them.

Can it receive email for my own domains?

Not with this template. Inbound mail ports (25 and 587) are not published, so private email domains cannot receive mail here.

How do I reset the admin password?

The admin password is read only on the first start, so editing ADMIN_PASSWORD later changes nothing. Over SSH, run docker exec aliasvault-<site-name> reset-admin-password -y, then restart the app.

What should I back up?

The aliasvault_database and aliasvault_secrets volumes together, plus the generated admin password. The database cannot be read without the keys in the secrets volume, so treat backups as highly sensitive.

Does xCloud automatically back up or update AliasVault?

No. The template pins AliasVault 0.30.7 by immutable digest; new installations use the pinned release and existing sites are not automatically upgraded. Back up first, read the upstream release notes, then change the readable tag, digest and app_version together on your own schedule. Server-level backups and snapshots are available on every Cloud VPS.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?

The template's baseline asks for 1 CPU core, 1024 MB of RAM and 16 GB of disk; measured idle use in QA was about 401 MiB (about 513 MiB after a round-trip). This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung, with real headroom above that baseline.

What survives a restart?

The data on the four named volumes. In QA, a vault item and a clean-session login both worked after an xCloud Restart.

Is xCloud officially partnered with AliasVault?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the AliasVault project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source AliasVault project.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
