What is the difference between Trilium and TriliumNext?

TriliumNext is the community project that continues the original Trilium. Its README says the original developer gave the repository to the community. This template runs the triliumnext/trilium image, not the archived original. Versions after v0.90.4 have incremented sync versions, which prevents direct migration from the original's v0.63.7.

Does Trilium Notes sync between devices?

Yes. Trilium supports synchronization between a server and desktop clients, and the owner password also takes part in sync and ETAPI authentication. After a restore, handle synced clients together with the server so older state is not pushed back over newer notes.

How much RAM does Trilium Notes need?

The manifest asks for 1024 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 4 GB of disk, and this page sells the 6 GB tier. Notes, attachments, logs and Trilium's own backups share one volume, and attachments are stored in the database, so heavy attachment use is what grows disk. It is not a media library.

How do I update Trilium Notes?

Not automatically. The image is pinned at v0.104.1 and existing installs are not re-synced. Take a verified off-server backup of trilium_data, read the release and migration notes, move to a newer pinned image, and let Trilium migrate. A rollback needs the matching pre-upgrade backup.

Is Trilium Notes free and open source?

Yes. The README describes it as free and open source, and the source at v0.104.1 carries the GNU Affero General Public License v3. There is no licence fee to run it; the xCloud charge is for the server underneath.

Who owns the data stored in Trilium Notes?

Open your HTTPS URL and choose Create a new Trilium document. Wait for the demo structure to initialise, then set the owner password and sign in. Trilium is a single-owner knowledge base, so there are no separate user accounts to invite.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
