What is Shoutrrr?

Shoutrrr is a social media scheduling tool you run yourself, billed by upstream as an open-source, self-hostable alternative to Buffer, Typefully and Hootsuite. You draft a post once and send it to every connected network, or queue it into recurring time slots on a month calendar. Upstream lists X, Bluesky, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Threads and Discord, with workspaces, roles and analytics. Self-hosted Shoutrrr is released under the Apache-2.0 licence.

Yes. Upstream recommends its prebuilt Docker image, which runs the web app, queue worker and scheduler in one container, and this template is Shoutrrr Docker hosting already set up: the 1.4.4 image pinned by digest, two volumes and HTTPS. It is your own Shoutrrr cloud scheduler.

How much RAM does Shoutrrr need?

The template declares 10 GB disk, 1024 MB RAM and 1 vCPU for the web app, worker and scheduler in one container. The 6 GB plan is the entry rung here, with room for media uploads and a growing calendar.

Is Shoutrrr open source?

Yes, Apache-2.0 open source with no software fee. Only the dedicated Cloud VPS is billed, and it can be cancelled any time. Upstream's pitch is no monthly seat fees and no third party holding your tokens or data.

Which database does Shoutrrr use?

This template uses SQLite, with no separate database service, kept on the shoutrrr_sqlite volume. Upstream says the image defaults to SQLite with no external services and that you can move to Postgres and Redis later if you need to scale out.

Can I upload large media files to Shoutrrr?

Shoutrrr supports large media, but the effective limit also depends on the xCloud nginx policy and free disk. For a big media library, point Shoutrrr at customer-owned S3-compatible storage through the Environment editor instead of keeping files on the volume.

How do I back up Shoutrrr?

Back up shoutrrr_storage and shoutrrr_sqlite together, and keep the generated application key with them. The storage volume holds uploads and generated keys, and SQLite holds your records. Losing or rotating the application key can make encrypted provider tokens unreadable.

How do I upgrade Shoutrrr?

The install stays on pinned 1.4.4 until you adopt a newer template version. Back up both volumes, read the upstream release notes and migrations, then redeploy and check sign-in, drafts, uploads and the queue. Existing sites are never upgraded automatically.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
