ChartDB Hosting Live In 5 Minutes
ChartDB hosting on xCloud gives you a self-hosted database diagram tool on your own domain. Deploy ChartDB in one click and xCloud serves the pinned image over HTTPS with no accounts, database credentials or server-side storage to set up. Import a schema, edit the ERD in the browser and export SQL, JSON or an image. Diagrams stay in each visitor's browser, so export the important ones as JSON for backup.

What is ChartDB?
Self-hosted ChartDB is an open-source, web-based database diagramming editor. You run one Smart Query against your database to retrieve its schema as JSON, import that into ChartDB and customize the ERD in an interactive editor, with no database password required. It exports SQL scripts, JSON and images, and upstream lists PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, MariaDB, SQLite, CockroachDB and ClickHouse as supported. Upstream calls it a public beta, and it is AGPL-3.0 licensed.
On xCloud the template serves the unmodified upstream image ghcr.io/chartdb/chartdb 1.20.1, pinned by digest, through xCloud's nginx, with HTTPS on your domain. It is a static browser app with no accounts, no database and no server-side volume. Diagram state lives in each browser's local storage, not on your server. Optional AI export is left unconfigured. Anyone who can reach the site can use the editor.
From Sign-Up to a Live ChartDB In Just 3 Easy Steps
Self-hosting ChartDB normally means containers, a database, a domain and a certificate before anything works. This is the same result without assembling any of it.
Step 01
Sign Up
Create your xCloud account and pick ChartDB from the OneClick catalog. Takes 30 seconds — no server to prepare.
Step 02
We Deploy It For You
One click. We bring up the unmodified ChartDB 1.20.1 image, pinned by immutable digest, behind xCloud's nginx and publish it over HTTPS on your domain. There is no database or volume to create, because ChartDB is a static browser app.
Step 03
Start Using It
Open the site URL. Choose a database type and import schema data produced by ChartDB's Smart Query workflow, or start a diagram manually. No account or setup wizard is required.
Everything ChartDB Does, On Your Own Server
ChartDB runs here as a static editor on your own domain, with diagrams kept in each visitor's browser and AI export left off.
Smart Query Schema Import
Run one query against your database to get its schema as JSON, then import it, so you visualize a schema without giving ChartDB a database password.
Interactive ERD Editing
Fine-tune the diagram in the editor, adjusting tables and relationships or adding annotations to explain complex structures to a teammate.
SQL, JSON And Image Export
Export SQL scripts, ChartDB JSON or an image of the diagram, so a schema can go into documentation, a review or a migration discussion.
Seven Database Families
Upstream lists PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, MariaDB, SQLite, CockroachDB and ClickHouse among its supported databases.
No Accounts To Manage
There is no sign-in system. Anyone who can reach the site can use the editor, so restrict it with xCloud Basic Authentication or an IP allowlist if needed.
Optional AI Export Left Off
AI-driven DDL export needs an OpenAI key or a custom endpoint, which this template deliberately leaves unconfigured. Import, editing and other exports need no third-party credentials.
Everything You Need To Run Your Database 24/7
Managed hosting for ChartDB, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.
- ChartDB deployed instantly
- Image pinned by immutable digest
- No accounts or database credentials
- Free SSL certificate
- Server backups and snapshots
- Server security updates included
- 30+ server locations
- Unused balance refunded
What You Can Do With ChartDB
Run a database schema visualizer
Turn a live schema into an ERD your team can read. Run the Smart Query, import the JSON and see tables and relationships without handing ChartDB a database password.
Document a schema for a review
Edit and annotate the diagram, then export SQL, JSON or an image to attach to a pull request, a wiki page or a design discussion about how the tables relate.
Plan a move between databases
Import a schema from one supported database and look at it as a diagram before migrating. Upstream's AI export can generate DDL in another dialect, but it needs an OpenAI key or a custom AI endpoint you supply.
Keep schema diagrams off third-party tools
Run the editor on your own domain so schema metadata is processed in the visitor's browser and never sent to a hosted diagramming service. Restrict access with Basic Authentication if needed.
ChartDB vs Alternatives
- dbdiagram.io
- Compared with dbdiagram.io, ChartDB runs on your own domain, imports a schema from a query result without a database password, and keeps diagram state in the visitor's browser rather than a vendor account.
- DrawSQL
- Compared with DrawSQL, ChartDB is an editor you host yourself: import schema JSON from a Smart Query, and export SQL, JSON or an image without creating an account.
- DBeaver
- Compared with DBeaver, ChartDB is narrower: a browser-based schema diagram editor that never connects to your database and works from imported schema JSON, so no connection details are needed.
- DbGate
- Compared with DbGate, also on xCloud, ChartDB focuses on diagrams: import schema JSON, edit the ERD and export it, without connecting to the database.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian GeovannyI've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.
Kevin PinedaI'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

Ed EllinghamxCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.
Dumitru ButucelxCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.
Waqar AhmedTrust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍
Rahul SinghSo far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.
Massimo VillaCame from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson ElI've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony LewisI came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowellI like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose
David McCanHow Kevin Heinrichs Cut Hosting Costs by 84% While Running WooCommerce & Node.js Sites Efficiently
Kevin HeinrichsI had 150 sites on cloudways and am in the process of moving them to xcloud. Much faster and better priced.
Dan SpinozaDear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.
Rahil MaknojiaCame from runcloud. Tried xcloud and never came back.

Blaine MooreFrequently Asked Questions
Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.
Is ChartDB free?
Yes. ChartDB is open source under the AGPL-3.0 licence, needs no account and carries no licence fee. The xCloud bill is for the Cloud VPS that serves the editor, billed monthly with no lock-in, and the heavy lifting happens in each visitor's browser.
How do I self-host ChartDB with Docker?
This template does it for you. ChartDB Docker hosting here means the unmodified ChartDB image pinned by immutable digest, served behind xCloud's nginx with HTTPS on your domain, with no docker run command, port mapping or reverse proxy to set up yourself.
Does ChartDB connect to my database?
No. The normal workflow imports schema JSON produced by ChartDB's Smart Query, so it needs schema metadata rather than a live connection or password. Do not paste production credentials into ChartDB, and run the query yourself in your own database client.
Which databases does ChartDB support?
Upstream lists PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, MariaDB, SQLite, CockroachDB and ClickHouse as supported, including PostgreSQL variants such as Supabase and Timescale and SQLite on Cloudflare D1. You choose the database type when you start a new diagram.
How do I export SQL from ChartDB?
Use the editor's export options to save the diagram as SQL, ChartDB JSON or an image. These exports need no third-party credentials. Upstream's AI-driven DDL export for another dialect is separate and needs an OpenAI key or a custom endpoint, which this template leaves unconfigured.
Does ChartDB need an AI key?
Only for the optional AI export. Importing a schema, editing the ERD and the non-AI exports work without any key. Upstream enables AI export with an OpenAI key or a custom endpoint, and this template sets neither, so any key and its usage costs would be yours.
Is ChartDB a good dbdiagram.io alternative?
It can be, if you want an editor on your own domain. ChartDB imports a schema from a query result, edits the ERD and exports SQL, JSON or images with no account. Upstream still calls it a public beta, so test it with your own schemas.
Does ChartDB store diagrams on the server?
No. ChartDB is a static browser application with no server-side volume or database. Diagram state sits in each browser's local storage, so it does not follow a user to another browser or device, and clearing site data can remove unexported diagrams.
What should I back up?
There is no volume to back up, because the server holds no diagram data. Take your own backup by exporting each important diagram as ChartDB JSON, storing it in your normal backup system and testing the import in a clean browser profile.
How do I update ChartDB?
The image is pinned by digest, so xCloud does not move you to a new release by itself. Verify the upstream image digest and architecture support for the release you want, change the pin deliberately, then repeat an import, export and browser-backup check.
What are the requirements for ChartDB cloud hosting?
The manifest lists 512 MB of RAM, one CPU core and 2 GB of disk. ChartDB cloud hosting begins at xCloud's 6 GB tier, well past that floor. Because it is a static app, the heavy work happens in each visitor's browser.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
