What is Apache Solr?

Apache Solr is an open-source search platform built on Apache Lucene, exposing core management, document indexing and structured query APIs through a browser-based administration UI. This template deploys version 10.0.0 in supported single-node standalone mode.

Is Apache Solr free?

Yes. Solr is free and open source under the Apache License 2.0. xCloud charges for the managed server it runs on, not for Solr itself.

Can I self-host Apache Solr with this template?

Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the pinned Solr 10.0.0 container from the official multi-architecture image, requires generated Basic authentication, mounts persistent storage for solr_data, and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain in a few minutes instead of assembled by hand.

Is this a SolrCloud cluster with ZooKeeper?

No. This template is intended for one standalone Solr node — there is no ZooKeeper, no SolrCloud replication, and no high availability set up underneath it. If your workload needs multi-node clustering, this is not that; it's a single, secured Solr server.

What does xCloud configure automatically?

The pinned Solr container, a generated administrator password, HTTPS on your domain with the container listener bound to localhost, and the solr_data volume. Basic authentication is required before the admin UI or any API becomes reachable — nothing is exposed unauthenticated.

How do I sign in?

Open https://your-domain/solr/ and sign in with username admin and the generated administrator password shown once in your xCloud credential panel. The username is fixed as admin; it is not something you choose at deploy time.

Can I rotate the administrator password?

Yes, but both steps are required together, in order: update the password through Solr's own authenticated Basic Authentication API first, then set SOLR_ADMIN_PASSWORD to the same value in the Environment editor before restarting the container. Doing only one of the two leaves the running password and the stored environment value out of sync, and the next restart can lock you out.

How do I create a core and start indexing?

From the admin UI, open Core Admin and choose Add Core to create your first core. Once it exists, index JSON documents and run queries against it through Solr's authenticated APIs — the same workflow as any Solr install, just already secured and reachable over HTTPS.

What are the server requirements?

The template manifest asks for 2048 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 10 GB of disk as a floor. This page sells the 6 GB tier, which sits right at that RAM floor with meaningfully more disk and CPU headroom for cores and indexes as they grow.

What should I back up?

The complete solr_data volume. Security configuration, core definitions, indexes and transaction logs all live there together, so a partial backup of just one piece is not a usable restore point.

Backups in xCloud

Does xCloud automatically back up or update Solr?

No. The template pins Solr 10.0.0 by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Review Solr's own index-compatibility and upgrade guidance before changing versions, and take your own solr_data backup first.

What survives a restart?

Everything on solr_data — security configuration, cores, indexes and transaction logs — because it is a persistent named volume. Restarting the container does not touch it.

Is xCloud officially partnered with Apache Solr?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Apache Software Foundation has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Apache Solr project.

Can I run other apps on the same server?

Yes. It is a dedicated Cloud VPS, not a locked appliance, so you can deploy other OneClick apps or your own sites beside it as long as the resources are there.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
