What is DbGate?

Is DbGate free?

Yes — the DbGate Community edition deployed here is free and open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0. What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the application itself.

Can I self-host DbGate?

Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the vendor-maintained DbGate 7.2.5 image pinned by immutable digest, mounts its persistent data volume and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain in minutes instead of assembled by hand.

How do I sign in?

With DbGate's built-in username and password login. Keep the default admin username or set a custom 1–32 character value at install time, and use the generated strong password or a custom 16–64 character one. xCloud shows both in your masked installation credential panel.

What does xCloud configure automatically?

The administrator username and password, the persistent dbgate_data volume, the domain and the HTTPS route. Only the DbGate web interface is published through xCloud-managed ingress — the app origin itself is bound to localhost.

Does DbGate come with a database?

No. DbGate does not bundle or expose a database server — it only connects OUT to databases you add yourself after signing in. Prefer a private network, a restricted database listener and a least-privilege database account, and do not expose your database publicly just to reach it from DbGate.

What should I back up?

The dbgate_data volume, as one complete restore unit. It holds DbGate's settings, saved connections, uploads, logs and runtime state under /root/.dbgate. Quiesce writes or stop the container before a snapshot, and never run docker compose down -v during routine maintenance or upgrades.

What are the server requirements?

The template manifest asks for 768 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 2 GB of disk as a floor for the DbGate application itself — database resource needs are separate, since this template does not bundle a database server. This page sells the same 6 GB tier as every other OneClick app, well above that floor, so there's room for large result sets, imports and other work on the same server.

What survives a restart?

Everything on dbgate_data, because it is a persistent named volume — saved connections, settings, uploads and logs. The administrator login is supplied through the container environment rather than the data volume, so a usable restore needs both the volume and the matching installation environment.

Can I rotate the administrator username and password?

Yes. Update the username and password together in the site's Environment editor, then recreate the container without deleting dbgate_data, and verify the new credentials before discarding the old record. Changing only files inside the volume does not rotate the environment-backed login.

Does xCloud automatically back up or update DbGate?

No. The template pins DbGate 7.2.5 by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Before a manual upgrade, back up the complete dbgate_data volume, review upstream release and migration notes, and verify sign-in plus saved connections on the new image.

Is xCloud officially partnered with DbGate?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the DbGate project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source DbGate project.

Can I run other apps on the same server?

Yes. It is a dedicated Cloud VPS, not a locked appliance, so you can deploy other OneClick apps or your own sites beside it as long as the resources are there.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
