What is DbGate?

DbGate is a cross-platform (no)SQL database client, designed to be simple to use and effective when working with several databases at once. Beyond query editing and data browsing it offers schema compare, a visual query designer, chart visualisation and batch import and export, and it runs as a desktop app or as a web app in Docker. Run on your own server it is a self-hosted DbGate, an alternative to a hosted manager such as DBeaver Cloud, licensed under the GPL-3.0.

On xCloud it is the community web version, dbgate/dbgate 7.2.6, in one container pinned by digest. The dbgate_data volume keeps settings, saved connections, uploads and logs. Premium database drivers that upstream lists are not part of this image, and your databases remain separate services that DbGate connects to.

Can I run DbGate in Docker?

Yes, and this template is DbGate Docker hosting without the setup: the community dbgate/dbgate 7.2.6 image pinned by digest, one container, the dbgate_data volume and an HTTPS route to port 3000. Upstream also offers desktop apps and an npm package.

How much RAM does DbGate need?

The template minimum is 768 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 2 GB of disk for the application itself. Large result sets, imports, uploads and many simultaneous connections need more. Starting here costs little and leaves real headroom.

Which databases does DbGate support?

Upstream lists MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, MongoDB, Redis, SQLite, MariaDB, CockroachDB, ClickHouse, Cassandra and DuckDB, plus Premium-only drivers. This template runs the community image, so the Premium drivers are not included and should not be assumed.

How do I log in to DbGate?

Sign in with the admin username and the password from the credentials. They are DbGate's built-in LOGIN and PASSWORD values in the Environment editor. To rotate them, update both together and recreate the container without deleting the volume.

How do I connect DbGate to my database?

Add a connection using a host reachable from this Docker network, test it, then open the database. Prefer a private network, a restricted listener and a least-privilege account, and do not expose a database publicly just to reach it from DbGate.

Is DbGate free?

Yes. Upstream says DbGate is licensed under GPL-3.0 and free to use for any purpose, and this template uses the community image. Your plan pays for the dedicated Cloud VPS underneath. Premium features sold upstream are not part of this install.

Where does DbGate store saved connections?

Under /root/.dbgate on the dbgate_data volume, together with settings, uploads, logs and runtime state. Treat saved connection details as sensitive. The application login lives in the container environment, not the volume, so a restore needs both.

How do I back up DbGate?

Back up the complete dbgate_data volume as one restore unit, after quiescing writes or stopping the container, and keep the installation credentials with it. It will not run itself, so arrange a regular copy and verify it.

How do I upgrade DbGate?

Nothing upgrades itself: 7.2.6 is pinned by exact digest. Back up the volume, review the upstream release and migration notes, then move to a newer template version when one is published, keeping the dbgate_data volume.

Is this a DbGate cloud service?

It is DbGate on a dedicated Cloud VPS under your xCloud login, a DbGate cloud of your own at your domain. Your databases stay separate services; DbGate only holds the connection details you save in it.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
