What is draw.io?

draw.io is, in its README's words, a configurable diagramming and whiteboarding application, jointly owned and developed by draw.io Ltd and draw.io AG, which also runs a production site at app.diagrams.net. You use it for flowcharts, software and cloud architecture, UML, entity-relationship diagrams, network maps and wireframes. The README notes that it does not support real-time collaborative editing in this version. Self-hosted draw.io is the editor served from your own domain. The source is licensed under Apache-2.0, while its icon sets, stencil libraries and templates carry separate terms.

Is draw.io free?

Yes. The draw.io source code is open source under Apache-2.0, linked from this page at the pinned v31.1.5 tag. Its icon sets, stencil libraries and templates carry separate terms that restrict some reuse, so read them before redistributing. xCloud bills for the Cloud VPS, not for draw.io.

Can you self-host draw.io with Docker?

Yes, and this draw.io Docker hosting template does it for you: the upstream jgraph/drawio image, pinned by digest, runs as one non-root container on your own server with HTTPS in front of port 8080. It is not a draw.io cloud account, and no tooling beyond that container is needed.

How much RAM does draw.io need?

The template manifest asks for 512 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 2 GB of disk as a floor. The server mostly delivers the application, so large diagrams use memory in your own browser. This page sells the 6 GB tier, which leaves wide headroom above that floor.

Where are my draw.io diagrams stored?

Wherever you choose when you save: browser storage, a local download or another destination you pick. The template runs no database and keeps no diagram volume on the server, and the upstream cloud-storage integrations are not configured. Recreating the container does not delete files saved elsewhere.

Does a self-hosted draw.io need a login?

Does draw.io support real-time collaboration?

How do I back up draw.io?

There is no template-managed volume to back up. Back up the diagram files at the destination where you saved them, and test opening an exported .drawio file before relying on it as a recovery copy. Server-level backups and snapshots of the Cloud VPS still exist, but hold no diagrams.

draw.io 31.1.5 stays pinned on a live install through catalog updates, and adopting a newer template version is your decision. Read the upstream release notes first. Because nothing is stored on the server, a move is low risk, but open an existing diagram afterwards to confirm it still loads.

Do I need technical skills to run draw.io?

No. Choose draw.io in the OneClick catalog, pick your domain and server, and open the HTTPS address once it is ready. There are no install fields, no database and no certificate to arrange. Only restricting access, if you want it, is a setting in the xCloud panel.
