What is BentoPDF?

BentoPDF is a privacy-first, client-side PDF toolkit that is self-hostable and lets you manipulate, edit, merge and process PDF files directly in your browser, released under AGPL-3.0. Upstream says no server-side processing is required and documents more than fifty tools, from organising and editing to converting to and from PDF and securing or optimising files. Self-hosted BentoPDF is an option for teams currently using an online service such as Smallpdf, or Adobe Acrobat.

On xCloud the template runs only the BentoPDF Simple edition, ghcr.io/alam00000/bentopdf-simple v2.8.7, pinned by digest, as one nginx container with no database and no volume. It does not enable commercial-only features. Large documents need memory in the visitor's browser, not on your server. Anyone who can reach the address can use it, so add Basic Authentication if it should be private.

How do I upgrade BentoPDF?

Release v2.8.7 is fixed by tag and digest, and sites already running keep it. To advance, read the upstream notes and choose a later template version that moves both together. With no volume or database involved, an upgrade only replaces the static files being served.

What is BentoPDF Simple edition?

Simple is the AGPL-3.0 self-hosted build that this template installs. It processes documents locally in the browser and the template does not enable or advertise commercial-only features. Upstream also describes a commercial build and custom branding options; consult its licensing page if you need anything beyond the Simple edition.

Is BentoPDF password protected?

No. There is no login, so anyone who can reach the site can use the tools. Because files never reach your server, the main risk is bandwidth and abuse of your domain. Add xCloud Basic Authentication or IP management in front if the toolkit should be private to your team.
