EdenText Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Deploy EdenText hosting and give your team a private document editor on your own domain. xCloud runs the pinned EdenText v0.13.0 image as one small container and publishes it over HTTPS in minutes. There is nothing to configure and no sign-in, and the server stores no documents: they stay in each visitor's browser or in files they open and save.

  • No terminal
  • No technical skills needed
  • No lock-in, cancel anytime

What is EdenText?

EdenText is a private, browser-based text and document editor. It opens and saves .docx, .odt and Markdown files in the browser, so a document does not have to be uploaded to anyone's server to be edited. Upstream also lists PDF export, track changes, comments and citations, and an optional AI assistant that is off by default. It is released under AGPL-3.0, and upstream describes it as beta software.

On xCloud it is EdenText v0.13.0 from the official image, pinned by digest, a static build served by nginx in a single container. There is no database, no volume and no sign-in, and the server holds no documents: they live in each visitor's browser for your domain, or in files people save themselves. Anyone who can reach the site can open the editor, so add Basic Authentication if you want to limit who loads it.

From Sign-Up to a Live EdenText In Just 3 Easy Steps

Serving a static editor still means a container, a port, a domain and a certificate before anyone can type. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick EdenText from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server; there are no extra fields and no credentials to generate.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We start the official EdenText image, pinned by digest, as a single static container with no database and no volume, and publish it over HTTPS. It is usually healthy within about a minute.

  3. Step 03

    Open The Editor

Open your HTTPS EdenText URL and the editor loads directly, with no sign-in. Write a document or open a .docx or .odt file, and save important work to a file. Add Basic Authentication if the editor should not be open to everyone.

Everything EdenText Does, On Your Own Server

EdenText runs in full here: a browser-based word processor on your own domain that keeps documents out of the server.

  • Opens And Saves .docx And .odt

Open and save .docx and .odt files in the browser; Markdown files are supported too. Files are not uploaded to the server.

  • A Ready Editor, No Setup

The editor loads straight away with a ribbon of tabs for Home, Insert, Layout, References, Review and View. There is no administrator step and no settings to configure.

  • Documents Stay In The Browser

The server stores nothing. Documents live in the visitor's own browser for your domain, or in files they save, so visitors cannot see each other's documents.

  • Richer Writing Tools Upstream

Upstream also lists PDF export, track changes, comments and citations, alongside spell check and an English grammar check.

  • Optional AI Assistant

The AI assistant is off by default. If a user turns it on, their browser contacts their chosen provider directly and the server holds no keys.

  • Recent Documents In The Browser

File > Recent documents lists what was saved automatically in this browser. Save a document as a file to keep it permanently.

Everything You Need To Run Your Document Editor 24/7

Managed hosting for EdenText, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • EdenText v0.13.0 deployed instantly
  • Official image pinned by digest
  • No accounts or setup fields
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Single light container, no database
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With EdenText

  • Edit Word and OpenDocument files without uploading them

Open a .docx or .odt file in the browser, edit it and save it back as a file.

  • Give a team one private editor on your domain

Share a single HTTPS address for a word processor where the server never sees anyone's documents.

  • Write Markdown and office documents in one place

Draft Markdown notes or formatted documents in the same browser editor.

  • Try a private AI writing assistant on your own terms

Leave the assistant off, or let each user turn it on so their browser calls their own provider directly.

EdenText vs Alternatives

Google Docs
As a self-hosted alternative to Google Docs, EdenText keeps no documents on the server: they stay in the visitor's browser or in saved files. It has no accounts or real-time sharing.
Microsoft Word
EdenText opens and saves .docx files in the browser, but it is a beta project, so check it against the documents you rely on.
Etherpad
Etherpad has its own OneClick page. It is built for several people typing in one document at once, while EdenText edits one document per browser with no accounts.
CryptPad
CryptPad has its own OneClick page. It is an encrypted collaboration suite with accounts, whereas EdenText is a single static editor with nothing stored on the server.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson El
I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

Can I run EdenText in Docker?

Yes, and this template is EdenText Docker hosting without the setup: the official image pinned by digest, one static nginx container, HTTPS on your own domain and nothing else to assemble. The digest is a multi-arch amd64 and arm64 index.

How much RAM does EdenText need?

The template baseline is 128 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 1 GB of disk; idle use measured in QA was about 6 MB. The 6 GB plan is the starting point here, far above that baseline.

How do I sign in to EdenText?

You don't: EdenText has no accounts or built-in authentication, so the editor opens directly. Anyone who can reach the site can open it, so add Basic Authentication in front if you want to limit access.

Where are my documents stored?

Not on the server. Documents live in each visitor's own browser, as local storage for your site's domain, or in files they open and save themselves. Visitors cannot see each other's documents.

Does the AI assistant send my documents anywhere?

It is off by default. If a user turns it on, their browser contacts their chosen provider directly; the server holds no keys and sends nothing on their behalf.

Which file types does EdenText open?

The template describes EdenText as opening and saving .docx, .odt and Markdown files in the browser. Upstream also lists PDF export, track changes, comments and citations. Upstream calls EdenText beta, so test it on the documents that matter to you.

Is EdenText free?

Yes. EdenText is open source under AGPL-3.0, so the software has no licence fee, and upstream also offers a commercial licence. You are billed only for the dedicated Cloud VPS that serves it.

How do I back up EdenText?

There is nothing to back up on the server: the install has no volume and no database. Save important documents as files, because documents kept in the browser are tied to your domain and to the browser's site data.

What happens if I change the domain?

Documents stored in the browser belong to the old domain, so after a change they are no longer reachable from the new one. Save important documents to files first, and use the site over HTTPS, which offline use, install-as-app, save-to-file and the copy buttons need.

How do I upgrade EdenText?

The install stays on its pinned v0.13.0 image until you adopt a newer template version, where the readable tag and the digest are bumped together. Read the upstream release notes first. Existing sites are never upgraded automatically.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
