What is GLPI?

GLPI stands for Gestionnaire Libre de Parc Informatique. It is a free asset and IT management software package that provides ITIL service desk features, licence tracking and software auditing, with asset and configuration management, change management, contracts, a knowledge base and plugins. Run on your own server it is a self-hosted GLPI for IT asset management and a service desk, an alternative to a vendor service such as ServiceNow, under the GPL-3.0.

On xCloud it is deployed as two services: glpi/glpi 11.0.9 and a private MariaDB 11.8.3 database, both pinned by digest. The glpi_data and glpi_db volumes hold the files and the database, the glpi administrator password is generated, and the sample accounts are disabled on first boot. HTTPS is served on your domain.

Can I self-host GLPI with Docker?

Yes, and this template is GLPI Docker hosting without the compose file: glpi/glpi 11.0.9 and a private mariadb 11.8.3, both pinned by digest, with two named volumes and an HTTPS route. The image installs GLPI itself once the database is ready.

Is GLPI free?

Yes. GLPI is distributed under the GNU General Public License version 3, so the software has no licence fee. Your plan pays for the dedicated Cloud VPS underneath. Plugins from the plugin directory may carry their own terms.

How much RAM does GLPI need?

The template manifest asks for 2048 MB of RAM, 2 CPU cores and 10 GB of disk for GLPI and its MariaDB together. This page sells the 6 GB tier, leaving headroom for a growing inventory, ticket history, attachments and plugins on the same server.

What can GLPI manage?

Per its README: IT assets and configurations, requests, incidents and problems, changes, a knowledge base, contracts, IT finance, asset reservation, data centre infrastructure, software and licences, a service catalog, entities, projects and plugins, all in one self-hosted install.

Does GLPI include a service desk and ticketing?

Yes. Upstream lists ITIL service desk features, request fulfilment, and incident and problem management among its main features. This template installs them with the rest of GLPI, so tickets work once you create your categories and users.

Which database does GLPI use?

The README lists MariaDB 10.6 or later, or MySQL 8.0 or later, as prerequisites. This template runs MariaDB 11.8.3 in a private container with a generated name, user and password, and publishes no database port.

How do I secure a new GLPI install?

The template already rotates the glpi super-admin password to the generated one and disables the tech, normal and post-only sample accounts on first boot. Create your own named administrator before adding production data, then restrict who can reach the site.

Does GLPI send email notifications by default?

No. The template configures no mail, so recovery and notification email do not work out of the box. Set up an outbound mail service inside GLPI before you rely on ticket notifications or password recovery.

How do I back up GLPI?

Back up glpi_data and glpi_db together, from the same point in time. The glpi_data volume holds encryption material that is required with the database, so restoring one without the other fails. Nothing schedules the backup for you; test a restore.

How do I upgrade GLPI?

Nothing upgrades itself: GLPI 11.0.9 and MariaDB 11.8.3 are pinned by digest, so an existing site stays on them until you act. Read the release notes, take a coordinated backup of both volumes, then move the tags and digests together on your own schedule.

Is this a GLPI cloud service?

It gives you a GLPI cloud of your own, two containers on a dedicated Cloud VPS under your xCloud login. It is not the project's hosted demonstration, and changing DB_PASSWORD in the environment does not rotate the database account.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
