What is ERPNext?

ERPNext is an open-source ERP suite built on the Frappe Framework in Python and released under the GPL-3.0 licence. Upstream describes it as covering accounting, order management and inventory, manufacturing, asset management, and projects with timesheets. Running self-hosted ERPNext is the option for teams that would otherwise rent a business suite such as SAP or QuickBooks and want the records on their own server.

On xCloud the template runs the official ERPNext 16.34.1 image as frontend, backend, websocket, two queue-worker pools and a scheduler, next to a private MariaDB 11.8 database and two private Redis 8.6 instances, all pinned by digest. Four persistent volumes hold the database, site files, logs and the job queue. Only the nginx frontend is published; xCloud generates the Administrator password.

What is ERPNext used for?

ERPNext is used to run a business from one system: accounting and cash flow, sales and purchase orders, inventory, manufacturing, assets, and projects with timesheets. A company that now keeps these in separate tools can move them into one set of shared records on its own server.

Is ERPNext really free?

Yes, the software is free and open source under GPL-3.0, and Frappe Framework components keep their own upstream licences. What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated Cloud VPS that runs the eight services and the deployment around them, not the application.

What modules does ERPNext include?

Upstream lists accounting, order management with inventory and fulfilment, manufacturing with subcontracting and capacity planning, asset management, and projects with tasks, timesheets and issues. The template README also names CRM, purchasing and support. Which modules you switch on is decided in the setup wizard.

How much RAM does ERPNext need?

The template manifest asks for 4096 MB of RAM, 2 CPU cores and 20 GB of disk, because eight services share the machine: MariaDB, two Redis instances, the app server, websocket, two worker pools and a scheduler. That floor is why this page sells the 16 GB Cloud VPS, not the 6 GB entry tier.

Can you self-host ERPNext with Docker?

Yes. For ERPNext Docker hosting this template starts the official frappe/erpnext image as six services from one compose anchor, plus MariaDB and two Redis containers, creates the site, mounts the volumes and puts HTTPS on your domain. You do not write the compose file or run bench new-site yourself.

How do I upgrade ERPNext?

ERPNext, MariaDB and Redis are pinned by digest, and a template update reaches new installs only. Before changing the ERPNext pin, take a verified backup, run bench --site <site> migrate, then check login, records, workers, scheduler and websocket. Frappe site downgrades mean restoring a compatible pre-upgrade backup.

How do I back up ERPNext?

Back up MariaDB (erpnext_db) and the erpnext_sites volume as one set; the sites volume holds configuration, encryption material and uploaded files. The template documents bench --site <site> backup --with-files --compress. Keep the output off-server and test a restore. erpnext_logs and erpnext_redis_queue are not a substitute.

How do I sign in, and change the Administrator password?

The username is always Administrator and xCloud generates a 32-character password, shown in the Credentials panel with the Site URL. Editing ADMIN_PASSWORD later does not rotate the live account; change it in ERPNext's user settings or with bench --site <domain> set-admin-password inside the backend container.

Can I run ERPNext in the cloud on xCloud?

Yes. For ERPNext cloud use, xCloud sets up a dedicated Cloud VPS, deploys the eight services on it and attaches your domain and certificate. A server rented from another provider can be attached as a self-managed server instead.

Why does the template run two Redis services?

redis-cache holds cached data and is deliberately non-persistent, with append-only mode off and no volume. redis-queue holds background job state with append-only on and keeps it in the erpnext_redis_queue volume. Only the queue Redis needs to survive a restart, so only that one has a volume.

Do I need to set up email?

Only if you want outbound mail. No SMTP is configured or required to install ERPNext or use it locally. When you need notifications or emailed documents, add a customer-owned email account inside ERPNext after the setup wizard has finished.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
