PWgen Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Deploy PWgen hosting and give yourself a private password and passphrase generator on your own domain. xCloud runs the pinned PWgen 1.93.0 image as a single container and publishes it over HTTPS in minutes — it keeps no data on the server, and the optional breach check sends only the first five characters of a SHA-1 hash, never the password itself.

What is PWgen?

PWgen is an open-source web application that generates secure passwords or passphrases with customisable options. A password can include uppercase letters, digits and special characters at the length you choose; a passphrase is made of random words, with options for capitalisation and separators.

It can check every result against the Have I Been Pwned database so a compromised password is not shown, or run in an offline mode with that check turned off. This template deploys version 1.93.0, licensed under AGPL-3.0.

From Sign-Up to a Live Generator In Just 3 Easy Steps

Running your own generator normally means a container, a domain, a certificate and a reverse proxy before the first password. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick PWgen from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server — there are no extra fields to fill in, because PWgen needs no credentials.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up the single PWgen container, a community image pinned by immutable digest, bind its port to loopback only, and publish it over HTTPS on your domain. There is no database and no volume, so there is nothing else to provision. It is usually healthy within about 30 seconds.

  3. Step 03

    Generate Your First Password

Open your HTTPS PWgen URL, choose a length and character sets, and generate a password — or switch to passphrase mode for a multi-word one. There is no sign-in.

Everything PWgen Does, On Your Own Server

PWgen runs in full here: a password and passphrase generator on your own domain, with no accounts and no stored data.

  • Passwords With Your Rules

Choose the length and which character sets to include, then generate a random password in one click.

  • Passphrase Mode

Generate a multi-word passphrase from a word list instead of a random string. Upstream ships English, Finnish and French lists.

  • Breach Check Without Sharing The Password

Each result can be checked against the Have I Been Pwned list using k-anonymity: only the first five characters of its SHA-1 hash leave the server.

  • Look-Alike Characters Excluded

Leave out o, 0, O, l, 1 and I so a password that gets read aloud or typed by hand is not misread.

  • Cryptographically Secure Randomness

Passwords come from Python's secrets module, as confirmed in the upstream source.

  • Settings Stay In The Browser

Each visitor's generator settings are kept in their own browser cookie, so the server stores nothing about them.

Everything You Need To Run Your Password Generator 24/7

Managed hosting for PWgen, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • PWgen 1.93.0 deployed instantly
  • Community image pinned by digest
  • Port bound to loopback, served over HTTPS
  • Kept behind xCloud nginx
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With PWgen

  • A generator your team can open

Give a team one trusted address for creating strong passwords, instead of each person choosing a different website to paste credentials into.

  • Credentials that get typed or read aloud

Exclude look-alike characters so a Wi-Fi key, a shared login or a spoken password is not misread.

  • Memorable passphrases

Switch to passphrase mode when people need to remember what they generate, using English, Finnish or French word lists.

  • Checking a password without exposing it

Use the optional breach check to avoid known-compromised passwords while only a partial hash leaves your server.

PWgen vs Alternatives

Password-manager generators
Tools such as Bitwarden and 1Password include a built-in generator inside the password manager. PWgen is a standalone generator with no accounts and no vault.
Public online generator websites
A generator on someone else's website runs on a server you do not control. PWgen runs on your own server and domain.
Browser-built-in suggestions
Browsers can suggest a password when you sign up for a site. PWgen is a separate page where you set the length, character sets or passphrase options yourself.

Hear what people are saying about us

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.

I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

Does PWgen store the passwords it generates?

No. Generated passwords are not logged or stored on the server.

Does the breach check send my password anywhere?

No. Only the first five characters of its SHA-1 hash are sent to Have I Been Pwned; the password stays on your server. If the server cannot reach that service, passwords are still served, just unchecked. Set NO_API_CHECK=true to stay fully offline.

How do I sign in?

There is no sign-in. Anyone who can reach the site can generate passwords, and cannot view or change anything else.

Is the generator public by default?

Yes — it has no accounts and no admin area, so if it should not be public, restrict access with xCloud Basic Authentication.

Which settings can I change?

Optional defaults such as password length, passphrase language and the breach check are commented lines in the Environment editor. Edit a value, then Save & Redeploy. Visitors who save their own settings keep them in a browser cookie, so your defaults only affect people who have not.

Why should DISABLE_URL_CHECK stay unset?

Turning it on would let any visitor make the server fetch an arbitrary address for a custom wordlist. Leave it unset.

What should I back up?

Nothing. The app is stateless and the template defines no volumes, so there is nothing to lose on an xCloud Restart.

Can a very large length request cause trouble?

Because the endpoint is public, a very large requested length can briefly tie up a worker; it recovers on its own.

Does xCloud automatically update PWgen?

No. The template pins PWgen 1.93.0 by immutable digest, because upstream publishes only a latest tag; new installations use the pinned release and existing sites are not automatically upgraded. Read the upstream release notes, then bump the digest on your own schedule. Server-level backups and snapshots are available on every Cloud VPS.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?

The template's baseline asks for 1 CPU core, 256 MB of RAM and 1 GB of disk; measured idle use in QA was about 114 MiB. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung, with real headroom above that baseline.

Is xCloud officially partnered with PWgen?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the PWgen project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source PWgen project.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
