What is SerpBear?

SerpBear is an open-source search engine position tracking and keyword research app. Upstream says it tracks your website's keyword positions in Google and notifies you of changes, with an API, Search Console integration and Google Ads keyword research. A self-hosted SerpBear is an alternative to paid rank trackers, licensed under MIT, and it records upstream's unlimited domains and keywords on your own server, with a mobile-friendly PWA.

Does SerpBear work without a scraping provider?

No. Rank checks do not run until you choose a scraping method in Settings: a supported third-party scraper or your own proxy IPs. The template preconfigures none, and provider accounts, limits and costs are yours to arrange.

Which scraping services does SerpBear support?

Upstream names ScrapingAnt, ScrapingRobot, SearchApi, SerpApi, HasData and others, or you can use your own proxies. Check each provider's current limits, terms and pricing yourself, because this page does not restate them and they change often.

Can you self-host SerpBear with Docker?

Yes. SerpBear ships a Docker image, and this template is SerpBear Docker hosting without the setup: the 3.1.0 image pinned by digest, a data volume, a login you set and HTTPS on your own domain.

How much RAM does SerpBear need?

The manifest asks for 1024 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 5 GB of disk. Rank history is kept in SQLite on the data volume, and the 6 GB plan leaves ample room for the app and other tools beside it.

Does SerpBear send email notifications?

Yes, once you add SMTP details in Settings. Upstream sends position changes daily, weekly or monthly. SMTP is optional and not preconfigured on this install, so bring credentials from your own mail provider and keep them private.

Does SerpBear have an API?

Yes. Upstream includes a built-in SERP API for marketing and reporting tools. xCloud generates the API key at install, so keep it private and unchanged, because rotating it can break the integrations that use it.

Is SerpBear open source?

Yes. SerpBear is MIT licensed, so the app itself is free. You pay for the Cloud VPS plus a scraping provider if you use one, which makes this a SerpBear cloud of your own and not a subscription.

Is it okay to track any website?

Track only domains you are authorised to monitor. Rank checks are searches made through a scraper or your proxies, so respect each provider's terms and Google's, and keep scraping credentials out of screenshots and logs.

How do I back up SerpBear?

Back up the serpbear_data volume, which holds the SQLite database, users, domains, keywords, settings and rank history. Restore it with the same generated SECRET and APIKEY values. Schedule xCloud's Docker backups or take one on demand, keep a remote copy and test a restore.

How do I upgrade SerpBear?

The install stays on its pinned 3.1.0 image until you adopt a newer template version. Back up serpbear_data first and read the upstream release notes. Nothing upgrades automatically, and the secret and API key must stay stable.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
