Countly Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Countly hosting keeps every session, event and crash report first-party, in your own MongoDB, instead of handing it to a third-party SaaS. Deploy Countly 25.03.53-LTS as a self-hosted product analytics platform: xCloud runs the pinned API, dashboard, MongoDB and router on a private network, publishes it over HTTPS, and leaves you to create the global administrator at /setup right after install.

What is Countly?

Self-hosted Countly is a product analytics platform. Its README calls it a privacy-first analytics and customer engagement platform built for full data ownership, used to understand behaviour across mobile, web, desktop and connected devices, with customizable dashboards, a plugin architecture and a documented API. Teams run it on their own server instead of a SaaS such as Mixpanel or Google Analytics. The free tier, which the README calls Countly Lite, is AGPL-3.0 with modified terms that keep Countly branding, and described as non-commercial.

On xCloud the template runs the countly/api and countly/frontend 25.03.53-LTS images, MongoDB 8.0 and an nginx router, each pinned by immutable digest, with the countly_mongodb volume holding all analytics data and uploads. HTTPS is published on your domain, and the first visitor to /setup creates the global administrator. It needs an amd64 server and omits the paid-tier features such as Drill, Funnels, Flows and Cohorts.

From Sign-Up to a Live Countly In Just 3 Easy Steps

Self-hosting Countly normally means wiring up the API, the frontend, MongoDB and a router by hand before you can track a single event. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick Countly from the OneClick catalog. There are no extra fields — xCloud generates the session secret for you.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up the pinned Countly 25.03.53-LTS API and frontend images alongside MongoDB and an nginx router, mount the persistent database volume, and publish it over HTTPS on your domain.

  3. Step 03

    Start Using It

Open https://<your-domain>/setup right away and create the global administrator. Sign in, add your first application, and point its SDK at your domain using the app key shown in the dashboard.

Everything Countly Does, On Your Own Server

Countly Community Edition runs here on infrastructure you control, without the paid-tier Drill, Funnels, Flows and Cohorts.

  • Sessions, Events And Crashes

Track sessions, events, crashes and user behaviour across web, mobile and desktop apps from one dashboard.

  • Dedicated SDK Endpoints

Writes go through /i and reads through /o, routed to the API process separately from the dashboard, with uploads up to 200 MB accepted.

  • First-Party Data, Your MongoDB

Every event, crash report and uploaded file lives in your own MongoDB instead of a third-party SaaS.

  • Create Your Own Administrator

The first visitor to /setup creates the global administrator — there is no preset login to inherit or rotate.

  • Multiple Apps, One Dashboard

Add as many applications as you track, each with its own app key for its SDK to use.

  • Backed By A Persistent Volume

Analytics data and uploaded files survive an xCloud Restart, because all state lives in the countly_mongodb volume.

Everything You Need To Run Your Product Analytics 24/7

Managed hosting for Countly, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • Countly 25.03.53-LTS deployed instantly
  • MongoDB database included
  • Separate API process for SDK traffic
  • Global administrator created by you
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Scheduled Docker backups
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With Countly

  • Track sessions, events and crashes

Point your web, mobile or desktop SDK at your Countly server URL and follow sessions, custom events and crash reports in one dashboard, with the data in your own MongoDB.

  • Keep analytics first-party

Store everything on a Cloud VPS you control, with no third-party analytics vendor holding your users' behaviour, which suits teams that need full data ownership.

  • Run several apps from one dashboard

Add each application with its own app key for its SDK, and switch between them in the same Countly dashboard rather than running a separate analytics stack per product.

  • Extend through plugins and the API

Use the README's plugin architecture and read and write API to pull dashboard data into other tools or add capabilities, within the free edition's limits.

Countly vs Alternatives

Mixpanel
Mixpanel is a hosted product analytics service. Countly's README describes an analytics platform deployable on-premises, so events, crashes and uploads live in your own MongoDB on your own Cloud VPS.
Google Analytics
Google Analytics is a hosted analytics service. Countly is first-party by design, with SDKs for apps and a dashboard on your domain, though its free licence is non-commercial, so check terms for business use.
Matomo
Matomo has its own xCloud template. Countly centres on product analytics across mobile, web and desktop apps, with crash reporting in the same dashboard.
Umami
Umami has its own xCloud template. Countly runs with MongoDB and a separate API process, and covers app events and crashes across mobile, web and desktop apps.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.
Kevin Pineda
I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.
Waqar Ahmed
Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.
Massimo Villa
Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson El
I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

How much RAM does Countly need?

The manifest asks for 2 CPU cores, 2048 MB of RAM and 20 GB of disk as a floor, kept higher than a typical app because each Node process defaults to a 2 GB heap. The 6 GB Cloud VPS sold on this page leaves headroom for MongoDB alongside the API and dashboard.

Is Countly free to self-host?

The README says the free tier, Countly Lite, is free under an open-source, non-commercial licence, and the LICENSE is AGPL-3.0 with additional terms that keep Countly branding in place. Check Countly's licensing FAQ before commercial use. xCloud bills for the Cloud VPS only.

Can you run Countly with Docker?

Yes, and this is Countly Docker hosting prepared for you. Upstream notes Docker support; the template runs the countly/api and countly/frontend 25.03.53-LTS images, MongoDB 8.0 and an nginx router, all pinned by immutable digest, with the countly_mongodb volume and HTTPS on your domain.

How do I create the first Countly administrator?

Open the /setup page of your domain and create the global administrator; there is no default username or password. Do it immediately after install, because until the first account exists anyone who can reach the site could claim the admin role.

Does Countly run on ARM servers?

No. It needs an amd64 server, because the upstream Countly images are not published for arm64. The Cloud VPS sizes sold on this page are x86, so this only matters if you bring your own server through the self-managed plans.

Is the self-hosted Countly the full product?

No. This deploys the free edition. Paid-tier features such as Drill, Funnels, Flows and Cohorts are not included, and the README lists Enterprise separately with advanced features and support. Plan around core analytics, dashboards, events, crashes and push as described.

Why are the Countly SDK endpoints public?

By design. The SDK write endpoint /i and read endpoint /o must be reachable by your apps, because app keys ship inside the apps you distribute. They are routed to the API process separately from the dashboard, accept uploads up to 200 MB, and are not a gap to fix.

Does Countly send email out of the box?

No. SMTP is not preconfigured and email delivery was not exercised, so do not rely on emailed reports or password resets until you configure SMTP yourself. Account passwords are changed inside Countly under Management, Users, never in the environment file.

What should I back up on a Countly server?

A backup is the countly_mongodb volume, which holds all analytics data and uploaded files, plus the stable environment values, especially the session secret, since changing it signs everyone out. Keep a copy off the server and test a restore.

How do I upgrade Countly?

Nothing upgrades it for you: the template pins 25.03.53-LTS by immutable digest. Upstream publishes upgrading documentation, so read it and the release notes, back up countly_mongodb, then adopt a newer template version when one is published, and confirm the dashboard and an SDK write.

Is this Countly cloud hosting?

It is your own Countly on a dedicated Cloud VPS provisioned by xCloud, not Countly's hosted service. The containers, MongoDB, the volume and the administrator belong to your install, and only the router is reachable through HTTPS on your domain.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
