What is Squidex?

Squidex is an open source headless CMS and content management hub. Upstream explains that, in contrast to a traditional CMS, it provides a rich API with OData filters and Swagger definitions, and it is up to you to build the user interface for a website or native app. A self-hosted Squidex is an alternative to a hosted headless CMS such as Contentful, released under the MIT licence.

Does Squidex need MongoDB?

Upstream lists MongoDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL or SQL Server as the database prerequisite; this template uses MongoDB and provides it. A private MongoDB 8.0.29 container runs beside Squidex with authentication on and no host port, and xCloud generates its password.

What is the Squidex admin login?

The initial administrator uses the email you entered at install and a generated password prefixed to satisfy Squidex's character rules. Sign in, then rotate that password from your user profile and keep it private until you have done so.

Does Squidex have an API?

Yes. Squidex is API-first, with a rich API, OData filters and Swagger definitions, so your website or app fetches published content over HTTPS. You build the user interface; Squidex does not provide the front end.

Can you self-host Squidex with Docker?

Yes. Squidex publishes an official image, and this template is Squidex Docker hosting without the setup: the 7.23.0 image and MongoDB pinned by digest, two volumes and HTTPS on your own domain, so the content API is yours to run.

How much RAM does Squidex need?

The manifest asks for 2048 MB of RAM, 2 CPU cores and 10 GB of disk. Content volume, assets and concurrent API traffic raise that, though the 6 GB plan covers the baseline and leaves headroom.

Does Squidex send email?

Not on install. SMTP and external identity providers are not configured by this baseline, so configure and test SMTP before you rely on email recovery or invitations. Plan another way to reset a lost administrator password.

Is Squidex open source?

Yes. Squidex is released under the MIT licence, so the code itself carries no fee. What you pay for is the Cloud VPS, which turns this into a Squidex cloud of your own rather than a hosted headless CMS subscription.

Where are Squidex assets stored?

On the squidex_assets volume, using the filesystem asset provider. Content, schemas, identity and events live in MongoDB on squidex_mongo. Back both up from the same point in time so they stay consistent, and test a restore on a spare install.

How do I back up Squidex?

Back up squidex_mongo and squidex_assets together from the same consistency window, using a MongoDB-consistent backup for the database. Keep encrypted off-server copies and test restoring into a separate installation. Nothing in the template schedules the copy for you.

How do I upgrade Squidex?

The install stays on its pinned 7.23.0 and MongoDB 8.0.29 images until you adopt a newer template version. Copy both volumes, review skipped release notes, update one dependency at a time and verify /healthz, login, schemas and assets.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
