What is Squidex?

Squidex is an open-source, API-first headless content management system for structured content, digital assets, editorial workflows and omnichannel delivery. This template deploys version 7.23.0.

Is Squidex free?

The core application is free and open source under the MIT licence. What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the software itself.

Can I self-host Squidex?

Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the official Squidex image alongside a private MongoDB database, both pinned by immutable digest, mounts two persistent volumes and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain in minutes instead of assembled by hand.

Who becomes the administrator, and how do I sign in?

xCloud generates the initial administrator account for the email you provide at installation, with a generated password shown once in your credentials panel. Sign in with those credentials after installation, then rotate the password from the Squidex user profile.

What does xCloud configure automatically?

A private MongoDB database with a generated password, the generated administrator account and password for the email you provide, both persistent volumes, the domain, and the HTTPS route. Only the Squidex application is published — MongoDB stays private on the internal network.

Where are content and assets stored?

Content, schemas, identity and event data live in MongoDB on the squidex_mongo volume; uploaded assets are stored on disk via Squidex's Folder asset provider on the squidex_assets volume. Both are private to your server.

What should I back up?

squidex_mongo and squidex_assets together, from the same point in time. squidex_mongo holds MongoDB's application, identity, event, schema and content data; squidex_assets holds files stored by the filesystem asset provider. A database-only backup is not a complete instance backup.

Backups in xCloud

Does xCloud automatically back up or update Squidex?

No. The template pins Squidex and MongoDB by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Before changing either pinned image, take a coordinated backup of both volumes, review every skipped Squidex and MongoDB release/migration note, then verify /healthz, administrator login, schemas, content and assets afterward.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?

The template manifest asks for 2 GB of RAM, two CPU cores and 10 GB of disk as a floor for Squidex alongside MongoDB. This page sells the 6 GB tier as comfortable headroom above that floor, with room for schemas, content and assets to grow.

What survives a restart?

Everything on squidex_mongo and squidex_assets, because both are persistent named volumes. Restarting the containers or running an xCloud lifecycle action does not touch your apps, schemas, content or assets.

Are SMTP and external identity providers set up for me?

No — neither is configured by this baseline template. Configure and test SMTP yourself before relying on email-based recovery or invitations inside Squidex.

Can I change my domain later?

You can, but treat it as a real reconfiguration, not a rename. The installation domain becomes Squidex's configured base URL (URLS__BASEURL); changing it later means updating that setting and re-checking anywhere the old URL was shared or embedded in generated links. Choose your final domain before publishing content externally.

Is xCloud officially partnered with Squidex?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and Squidex has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Squidex project.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
