Linkwarden Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Linkwarden hosting on xCloud gives you a private, collaborative bookmark library on a server you control. Deploy Linkwarden in one click: xCloud runs the pinned 2.16.0 image with a private PostgreSQL 16 database and a Meilisearch index for full-text search, generates every secret and the administrator password, mounts three persistent volumes and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain, so your team can start saving links straight away.

What is Linkwarden?

Linkwarden is a self-hosted, open-source collaborative bookmark manager licensed under AGPL-3.0. Self-hosted Linkwarden collects links into collections and tags, saves a screenshot and PDF of each page so it survives link rot, and adds a reader view with highlights and annotations. Upstream describes it as blending the simplicity of a read-it-later tool with the reliability of a web archive, built with collaboration in mind, with a browser extension and native iOS and Android apps.

This template runs Linkwarden 2.16.0 with PostgreSQL 16 and Meilisearch 1.12.8 on a private network behind xCloud's nginx. Three volumes hold archived pages, the database and the search index. xCloud generates the secrets and creates an xcloud-admin account, then disables public registration. SMTP, SSO, S3 and AI providers are left out on purpose.

From Sign-Up to a Live Linkwarden In Just 3 Easy Steps

Self-hosting Linkwarden normally means a web container, PostgreSQL, a search service, generated secrets, a domain and a certificate before the first bookmark. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick Linkwarden from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server; the install form needs no app-specific values.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up Linkwarden 2.16.0 pinned by digest with PostgreSQL 16 and Meilisearch 1.12.8 on a private network, mount the linkwarden_data, linkwarden_db and linkwarden_search volumes, generate the secrets and publish it over HTTPS.

  3. Step 03

Sign In And Save A Link

Sign in as xcloud-admin with the generated password shown in xCloud, then add your first bookmark. Linkwarden saves a copy of the page, and public registration is already disabled.

Everything Linkwarden Does, On Your Own Server

Linkwarden runs in full here: page preservation, collections, search and collaboration, with the archive stored on volumes you control.

  • Page Preservation

Linkwarden captures a screenshot, a PDF and a single HTML file of each saved page, so a bookmark still opens after the original page disappears.

  • Reader View And Highlights

Read a saved page in a clean reader view, highlight key passages and add annotations, so saved articles become notes you can revisit.

  • Collections And Tags

Organise links by collection, sub-collection, name, description and multiple tags, so a large library stays navigable as it grows.

  • Full-Text Search

Search, filter and sort across your saved links, backed by a private Meilisearch index that this template runs beside Linkwarden.

  • Shared Collections

Invite other people to gather links in a collection, set the permissions of each member, or share links and preserved formats publicly.

  • Registration Closed By Default

The template creates the xcloud-admin account and disables public registration before install completes, so only people you add can sign in.

Everything You Need To Run Your Bookmark Archive 24/7

Managed hosting for Linkwarden, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • Linkwarden 2.16.0 deployed instantly
  • Private PostgreSQL and Meilisearch
  • Secrets and admin generated for you
  • Kept behind xCloud nginx
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With Linkwarden

  • Keep pages that might disappear

A researcher saves articles and references with a screenshot and PDF of each, so the source stays readable after the original site changes or goes offline.

  • Build a shared team reading list

A small team invites members to a collection, sets each person's permissions, and gathers links for a project in one place instead of a chat thread.

  • Annotate what you read

A student opens a saved page in reader view, highlights the key ideas and adds notes, then finds the page again later through full-text search.

  • Replace a read-it-later subscription

Someone who saves links to read later moves the library to their own server and keeps it organised with collections and tags, on a domain they control.

Linkwarden vs Alternatives

Pocket
Pocket was Mozilla's hosted read-it-later service and has shut down. Linkwarden is software you run on your own Cloud VPS, and its README describes blending a read-it-later tool with a web archive that keeps a screenshot and PDF of each page.
Karakeep
Karakeep is a self-hosted bookmark archive with its own xCloud page. Its template asks for 3072 MB of RAM and 2 CPU cores, against 2048 MB and 1 core for this Linkwarden template.
Wallabag
Wallabag is a self-hosted read-it-later service for saving pages, tagging them and reading offline. Linkwarden centres on collections shared between users and keeps a screenshot and PDF copy of each page.
Linkding
Linkding is an MIT-licensed bookmark manager in a single SQLite-backed container, and its xCloud template asks for 512 MB of RAM. Linkwarden runs three services and asks for 2048 MB.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.

I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

Can you self-host Linkwarden with Docker?

Yes, and Linkwarden Docker hosting is what this template does. Upstream publishes the Linkwarden image; xCloud runs it pinned by digest with PostgreSQL 16 and Meilisearch on a private network, plus volumes, secrets, domain and HTTPS, instead of a Compose file you maintain.

How much RAM does Linkwarden need?

The template manifest asks for 2048 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 10 GB of disk as a floor. The 6 GB Cloud VPS on this page clears that, including PostgreSQL and Meilisearch. Browser-based page preservation and concurrent indexing can need more memory and CPU, and archived screenshots and PDFs drive storage growth.

Does Linkwarden archive pages?

Yes. Linkwarden captures a screenshot, a PDF and a single HTML file of each saved page, and can optionally send a page to the Wayback Machine. The copies live on the linkwarden_data volume, so they stay on your server even if the original page goes away.

What is the best self-hosted alternative to Pocket?

There is no single best one. Linkwarden suits people who want collaboration, collections and a preserved copy of each page. Wallabag is a read-it-later service and Linkding a lighter bookmark manager, and each has its own xCloud page. Choose by features and the RAM floor.

Does Linkwarden have a browser extension?

Yes. Upstream provides a browser extension for saving links, along with native iOS and Android apps that need an account on a Linkwarden instance. You can point them at your own domain. This template does not change or bundle them; they connect to the site over HTTPS.

Where does Linkwarden store its data?

On three volumes: linkwarden_data for archived pages, screenshots and PDFs; linkwarden_db for accounts, collections, bookmarks and settings; and linkwarden_search for the Meilisearch index. Take a backup of all three together, keep a copy off the server and test a restore.

Can I share collections with other people in Linkwarden?

Yes. Linkwarden lets several users collaborate on a collection, set the permissions of each member, and share links and preserved formats publicly. Public sign-up is disabled in this template, so you add the people you want rather than leaving registration open.

Is Linkwarden free to self-host?

Yes. Linkwarden is open source under the AGPL-3.0 licence, and upstream describes self-hosting as free. Your xCloud bill covers the Cloud VPS and deployment. Upstream also sells its own Linkwarden Cloud subscription, which is a separate service from this template.

Is xCloud the same as Linkwarden Cloud?

No. Linkwarden Cloud is upstream's own subscription service. xCloud sells a Cloud VPS and deploys the open-source Linkwarden image on it, so the archive sits on your volumes. xCloud has no partnership with, or endorsement from, the Linkwarden project.

How do I upgrade Linkwarden on xCloud?

Linkwarden does not update itself: 2.16.0 is pinned by digest, and a catalogue re-sync does not touch existing installs. Back up all three volumes, read the release notes, then move to a newer version and check login, search and one saved page.

How do I sign in the first time?

Use the xcloud-admin username and the generated password shown in the xCloud credentials panel. The install form asks for no app-specific values, and public registration is disabled before install completes, so additional users are added from inside Linkwarden.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
