What is Wallabag?

Wallabag is an open-source, self-hosted read-it-later service that saves web pages for tagged, searchable, distraction-free and offline reading, released under the MIT licence. This template deploys version 2.6.14.

What is the login?

The username is wallabag and the password is the generated one shown in the credentials panel. The post-install step replaces the official image's default password with it and is safe to run again.

How do I change the password?

In Wallabag's account settings. ADMIN_PASSWORD is a one-time bootstrap input; editing it later does not rotate the existing account. If the generated password is lost before the first sign-in, use Wallabag's fos:user:change-password console command from the application container.

Why must APP_SECRET stay the same?

It is the application secret Wallabag signs with. Keep it stable with the restored data whenever you back up or restore.

How do I upgrade?

Back up all three volumes, review the Wallabag and MariaDB release notes and migrations, then recreate the containers without deleting or renaming the volumes. Never run docker compose down -v for an upgrade.

What does xCloud configure automatically?

The pinned Wallabag image, the url, administrator username and administrator password shown in the credentials panel, persistent storage on wallabag_db, wallabag_data and wallabag_images, the domain and the HTTPS route. Wallabag stays on internal port 80, reachable only through xCloud nginx.

What should I back up?

All three volumes together: wallabag_db (accounts, articles, tags, settings), wallabag_data (application data) and wallabag_images (downloaded article images). Use an application-consistent MariaDB backup or briefly stop writes while snapshotting, and keep APP_SECRET with the data.

Does xCloud automatically back up or update Wallabag?

No. The template pins Wallabag 2.6.14; new installations use the pinned release, existing sites are not automatically upgraded. Back up first, read the upstream release notes, then update the image on your own schedule. Server-level backups and snapshots are available on every Cloud VPS.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?

The template manifest asks for 1 CPU core, 2 GiB of RAM and 10 GiB of disk as a floor for Wallabag. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung, with real headroom above that floor.

What survives a restart?

Everything on wallabag_db, wallabag_data and wallabag_images, because they are persistent named volumes. Restarting the container does not touch that data.

Is xCloud officially partnered with Wallabag?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Wallabag project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Wallabag project.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
