What is Wallabag?

Wallabag is a web application for saving web pages for later reading, released under the MIT licence. Upstream says it extracts content so you are not distracted by pop-ups, and it lists an Android app, an iOS app and a browser extension. Self-hosted Wallabag is the option for people looking for a Pocket or Instapaper alternative, or who would otherwise use upstream's hosted wallabag.it.

On xCloud the template runs the official Wallabag 2.6.14 image beside a private MariaDB 11.8.3 container with no published port, both pinned by digest. Three volumes hold the database, application data and downloaded images. The post-install step replaces the upstream default wallabag password with a generated one, and public registration is disabled. The administrator username is fixed as wallabag.

Is Wallabag free and open source?

How much RAM does Wallabag need?

Wallabag's manifest floor is 2048 MB of RAM, a single core and 10 GB of disk, because Wallabag and MariaDB share the machine. Large libraries, full-text extraction, downloaded images and concurrent imports need more memory, CPU and storage. The 6 GB Cloud VPS sold here sits above that floor.

Are there Wallabag apps and browser extensions?

Yes. Upstream lists an Android app, an iOS app and a browser extension, plus a GNOME app that it does not maintain. Point them at your site's HTTPS address to save pages to your own server, and check each client's documentation for how it authenticates against the Wallabag API.

How do I back up Wallabag?

A Wallabag backup means all three volumes together: wallabag_db holds accounts, saved articles, tags and settings, wallabag_data holds application data and wallabag_images holds downloaded images. Use a consistent MariaDB copy or stop writes while snapshotting, keep the APP_SECRET with it, store a copy off-server and test a restore.

How do I upgrade Wallabag?

Wallabag 2.6.14 and MariaDB 11.8.3 stay at their digests until you act. First copy all three volumes, then read the release notes and migrations of both projects, then pick a later template version that bumps the pair. Afterwards confirm login and open a saved article.

What is the default Wallabag login?

There is no shared default. The upstream image ships a wallabag and wallabag account, but the post-install step replaces that password with a generated 24-character one. Sign in as wallabag with the password in your credentials panel, then change it in account settings; editing the environment later does not rotate it.

Can I turn registration on for other users?

Public registration is disabled in this template, so the wallabag administrator is the only login at first. Add other users from within Wallabag if you want a shared library. Anyone who can reach the site can still see the login page, so keep the administrator password private and strong.

Can I run Wallabag in the cloud on xCloud?

Yes. Under Wallabag cloud use, xCloud provisions a dedicated Cloud VPS and starts the app and MariaDB on it and attaches your domain and certificate. If you already pay another provider for a server, you can attach it as a self-managed server and deploy the same pair of images.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
