Centrifugo Hosting Live In 5 Minutes
Centrifugo hosting on xCloud puts a real-time messaging server on your own domain. Deploy Centrifugo in one click: xCloud runs the pinned centrifugo/centrifugo v6.9.3 image behind HTTPS, generates the admin password, API key and token secrets, and serves the admin console. Your backend publishes to channels through the HTTP API, and clients connect over WebSocket. It runs on the in-memory engine, so nothing is kept after a restart.

What is Centrifugo?
Centrifugo is an open-source, language-agnostic real-time messaging server released under the Apache-2.0 licence. A self-hosted Centrifugo is a self-hosted real-time messaging server that delivers messages instantly to users connected over WebSocket, HTTP streaming or Server-Sent Events, built around channel subscriptions as a user-facing PUB/SUB server. Teams use it for chat, live comments, collaborative tools and AI streaming responses, in place of a hosted service such as Pusher or Ably.
This template runs one centrifugo/centrifugo v6.9.3 container behind xCloud's nginx on your domain, with an embedded admin console. xCloud generates the admin password, API key, admin secret and client-token secret. It uses the in-memory engine, so there is no persistent volume and no durable message history, and it runs as a single instance with no broker.
From Sign-Up to a Live Centrifugo In Just 3 Easy Steps
Self-hosting Centrifugo normally means a container, generated secrets, a domain and a certificate before a client can connect. This is the same result without assembling any of it.
Step 01
Sign Up
Create your xCloud account and pick Centrifugo from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server; the install form needs no app-specific values.
Step 02
We Deploy It For You
One click. We bring up the centrifugo/centrifugo v6.9.3 image pinned by immutable digest, generate the admin password, API key and token secrets, and publish it over HTTPS on your domain. There is no volume to mount.
Step 03
Open The Admin Console
Open your HTTPS URL and sign in to the admin console with the generated admin password. Then keep the API and client-token secrets stable, and connect your backend and clients.
Everything Centrifugo Does, On Your Own Server
Centrifugo runs here as a single instance on the in-memory engine: the PUB/SUB server and admin console on your own domain, with no external broker.
Channel PUB/SUB
Clients subscribe to channels and Centrifugo delivers each published message to them instantly, so chat, live comments and dashboards share one real-time layer.
WebSocket, HTTP Streaming, SSE
Browsers and apps connect over WebSocket on the HTTPS domain out of the box. Upstream's HTTP streaming and Server-Sent Events transports are off by default and are enabled in the environment file.
Authenticated Publish API
Your backend publishes messages into channels through a simple HTTP API protected by a generated API key, so business logic stays in your own application.
Embedded Admin Console
Open the admin console on your domain, sign in with the generated password, and watch live connections or publish a test message into a channel.
Official Client SDKs
Upstream publishes SDKs for JavaScript, Dart and Flutter, Swift, Java, Python, Go and .NET, which handle reconnects and subscription state for you.
In-Memory, Single Instance
State lives in memory with no broker, so there is no durable history and a restart clears it. Treat it as a live delivery layer, not a message store.

What You Can Do With Centrifugo
Add live chat to your product
A product team keeps its chat logic in its own backend and uses Centrifugo to push each message to everyone subscribed to a channel in real time.
Show live comments and updates
A publisher streams new comments, scores or notifications to open browser tabs over WebSocket, without polling its own API.
Stream AI responses to the browser
An application developer streams a model's answer token by token to the user through a channel, while the backend keeps control of authentication.
Replace a hosted real-time service
A team paying a hosted pub/sub service moves its channels to a domain it controls, keeping its backend and switching clients to Centrifugo's SDKs.
Centrifugo vs Alternatives
- Pusher
- Pusher is a hosted real-time service. Centrifugo is software you run on your own Cloud VPS: your backend publishes through its HTTP API, and clients use Centrifugo's own SDKs rather than a Pusher client.
- Ably
- Ably is a hosted real-time platform. Centrifugo is an open-source server under Apache-2.0 that you operate yourself, with an admin console and WebSocket, HTTP streaming and SSE transports, on a server you choose.
- Socket.IO
- Centrifugo is a standalone, language-agnostic server that any backend talks to over an HTTP API (upstream also offers GRPC). Compare that model with Socket.IO's against how your application is built, then decide which fits.
- Soketi
- Soketi is an AGPL-3.0, Pusher-compatible WebSocket server with its own xCloud page; its template asks for 512 MB of RAM. Centrifugo asks for 1024 MB and uses its own SDKs and API instead of the Pusher protocol.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian GeovannyI've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.
Kevin PinedaI'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting
Leo KooHow Cloud Nine Web Elevated Client Experience While Streamlining Hosting Operations using xCloud
Ed EllinghamxCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.
Dumitru ButucelxCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.
Waqar AhmedTrust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍
Rahul SinghSo far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.
Massimo VillaCame from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson ElI've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony LewisI came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowellI like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose
David McCanHow Kevin Heinrichs Cut Hosting Costs by 84% While Running WooCommerce & Node.js Sites Efficiently
Kevin HeinrichsI had 150 sites on cloudways and am in the process of moving them to xcloud. Much faster and better priced.
Dan SpinozaDear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.
Rahil MaknojiaCame from runcloud. Tried xcloud and never came back.

Blaine MooreFrequently Asked Questions
Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.
Can you self-host Centrifugo with Docker?
Yes, and Centrifugo Docker hosting is what this template does. Upstream publishes the centrifugo/centrifugo image; xCloud deploys it from a digest-pinned template, with the admin password, API key, domain and HTTPS already configured so you do not write and maintain a Compose file.
How much RAM does Centrifugo need?
Centrifugo's manifest sets 1024 MB of RAM as the floor, with one core and 4 GB of disk. The 6 GB Cloud VPS on this page covers a single Centrifugo process with room to spare. The number of simultaneous connections and the message rate are what grow memory use from there.
How does my backend publish messages to Centrifugo?
Your backend calls Centrifugo's HTTP server API to publish into channels, while clients subscribe through the official SDKs. The template enables that HTTP API with a generated key; upstream's GRPC API is off. Keep that key and the client-token secret stable across container recreation.
Which transports does Centrifugo support?
Upstream supports WebSocket, HTTP streaming, Server-Sent Events, GRPC and an experimental WebTransport. This template serves WebSocket behind HTTPS by default. HTTP streaming and SSE are off until enabled in the environment file, and it adds no GRPC or WebTransport ports.
Is Centrifugo a good alternative to Pusher?
It can be, if you want to run the server yourself. Centrifugo has channel subscriptions, an HTTP publish API and official SDKs, but it does not speak the Pusher protocol, so clients change. Soketi is the Pusher-compatible option and has its own xCloud page.
Does Centrifugo support presence and history?
Upstream does: online presence with join and leave notifications, and hot message history with recovery after reconnect. This template sets no channel options, so both stay off until you configure them, and on the in-memory engine they are cleared when the container restarts.
How do I secure the Centrifugo API?
Use the generated API key and keep the client-token secret private; xCloud generates both, plus the admin password. Upstream warns that its insecure flags are for local trials only and never for production. Rotate secrets deliberately, because changing them breaks existing clients and your backend.
Is Centrifugo free?
Yes. Centrifugo is open source under the Apache-2.0 licence, so no Centrifugo licence fee applies. The xCloud charge pays for the Cloud VPS and the deployment, and the server size you choose sets the running cost.
What should I back up on Centrifugo?
There is no data backup to take, because this template has no persistent volume and the in-memory engine keeps no durable data. Keep a safe copy of the API key, admin password and client-token secret from the credentials panel, and your own backend configuration. Server snapshots still apply.
Is there a Centrifugo cloud option on xCloud?
xCloud sells a dedicated Cloud VPS and deploys the open-source Centrifugo image on it, so you hold the server and every secret, and you choose the domain and the server size. There is no partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Centrifugo project.
How do I upgrade Centrifugo on xCloud?
Centrifugo does not update itself: v6.9.3 is pinned by digest, and a catalogue re-sync changes new installs only. Read the upstream release notes, then move to a newer template version on your own schedule and reconnect clients.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
