What is Fusio?

Fusio is an open-source API management platform and API gateway, written in PHP and released under the Apache-2.0 licence. Upstream describes it as a bridge between internal infrastructure and the outside world: it can expose SQL databases as REST APIs, route traffic between services, run custom actions in PHP or JavaScript, and provide a developer portal, client SDK generation, usage analytics and native MCP support. Self-hosted Fusio is an alternative to a hosted API product such as Apigee for teams that want to own the gateway and its data.

On xCloud the template runs the official Fusio 7.1.1 image, pinned by digest, with a private MySQL 8.4 database on the Compose network and one persistent volume, fusio_db. The administrator account is created on first start from the fields you fill in. Optional Fusio worker containers and external mail or AI providers are not enabled in this baseline.

What is Fusio used for?

Fusio is used to design, publish, secure and monitor APIs from one platform. Upstream lists a database API gateway, a microservice gateway, custom actions in PHP or JavaScript, a developer portal, SDK generation, analytics and monetization. Your first job after signing in is creating an action and binding it to an operation.

Is Fusio free and open source?

The software is open source under the Apache-2.0 licence, so the platform carries no licence fee. xCloud's bill is for the dedicated Cloud VPS and the deployment. Optional extras such as external mail or AI providers are not enabled in this baseline, and any account with them would be billed by that provider.

Can you self-host Fusio with Docker?

Yes. For Fusio Docker hosting the template runs the official Fusio 7.1.1 image and a MySQL 8.4 container on a private Compose network, both pinned by digest. Fusio is served through the xCloud nginx proxy with HTTPS, and the database accepts no connections from outside the install.

How much RAM does Fusio need?

The manifest asks for 1536 MB of RAM, two CPU cores and 10 GB of disk, covering Fusio and MySQL together. The 6 GB plan here gives roughly four times that floor, so the API gateway, its database and the operating system run with comfortable headroom for real API traffic.

How do I sign in to Fusio?

Open /apps/fusio/ on your HTTPS domain and sign in with the administrator username you entered and the generated password on your credentials panel. The administrator is created on first startup only, so later edits to those values do not change the account. Change the password inside Fusio.

What database does Fusio use?

This template pairs Fusio with a private MySQL 8.4 container, kept off the public internet and reached over the Compose network with generated credentials. Upstream also supports PostgreSQL and SQLite, but this baseline does not use them. Rotate the database password in MySQL first, then update the matching value and redeploy.

How do I back up Fusio?

Back up the fusio_db volume, which holds users, configuration, API definitions, credentials stored by Fusio and operational data. Keep the matching generated database credentials with that copy, because a restored volume is useless without them. Store copies off-server and test a restore.

How do I upgrade Fusio?

Fusio 7.1.1 and MySQL 8.4 are both fixed by digest, so a catalog update leaves a gateway in service as it is. Take a fusio_db backup, read the Fusio and MySQL release notes, and then adopt a newer template version when you choose. Never upgrade without that backup in hand.

Does Fusio support MCP?

Upstream lists native Model Context Protocol support, which exposes your API logic as tools for AI agents. This template installs the Fusio platform only: external AI providers and optional worker containers are not enabled in the baseline, so any such integration is yours to configure.

Can I run Fusio in the cloud on xCloud?

Yes. Fusio cloud use gives the stack its own Cloud VPS, with your domain, certificate and the private database attached. A server rented elsewhere can be enrolled as self-managed. Fusio reads the real client address from X-Real-IP, so its firewall and anonymous rate limit apply per visitor.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
