What is Keila?
Keila is a free, open-source newsletter and email-campaign manager for contacts, lists, signup forms, templates and campaigns. This template deploys version 0.30.2 with a private PostgreSQL database.
Is Keila free?
Yes — it is free and open source under the GNU Affero General Public License v3 (AGPL-3.0). What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the application itself.
Can I self-host Keila?
Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the official Keila 0.30.2 image alongside a private PostgreSQL 17.6 service, both pinned by immutable digest, mounts its two persistent volumes and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain in minutes instead of assembled by hand.
How do I sign in?
With the administrator email you supply at install and a 24-character password xCloud generates for you, shown once in your xCloud credential panel. You choose the email; you do not choose the password.
Do I need my own SMTP provider?
Yes. Keila requires SMTP host, port, sender address, username, password and an explicit STARTTLS or implicit-TLS choice at install — without them, Keila cannot send account confirmation or campaign email at all.
What does xCloud configure automatically?
The Keila URL, a private PostgreSQL database with a generated name, user and password, the application secret, both persistent volumes, the domain and the HTTPS route. Only Keila's web interface is published through xCloud-managed HTTPS — PostgreSQL stays private to the internal network.
Is my installation private by default?
No. Public self-registration is enabled by default so additional users can sign up. If this installation should be private, disable public registration in the Environment editor after confirming your own administrator account, then redeploy.
What should I back up?
The keila_db and keila_uploads volumes together, from the same maintenance window. keila_db holds accounts, projects, contacts, lists, campaigns, templates and application state; keila_uploads holds campaign assets. Pause campaign activity, take a PostgreSQL-native dump, preserve uploaded assets, and test restoration in an isolated installation.
Who is responsible for email deliverability?
You are. SMTP deliverability, sender-domain verification, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, bounce handling, sending quotas and provider restrictions all remain the operator's responsibility. Some hosting providers restrict outbound SMTP ports.
Can I rotate the database or SMTP credentials?
Yes, but coordinate the change. To rotate PostgreSQL, update the live database role first, then update both POSTGRES_PASSWORD and the password embedded in DB_URL together. When SMTP credentials or transport settings change, update the matching mailer values together and verify delivery before resuming campaigns.
Does xCloud automatically back up or update Keila?
No. The template pins Keila 0.30.2 and PostgreSQL 17.6 by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Review Keila release notes, take a coordinated backup of both volumes, then verify owner login, projects, contacts and campaign previews before changing either pinned image. Never run docker compose down -v during an update.
What are the server requirements?
The template manifest asks for 1.5 GB of RAM, two CPU cores and 10 GB of disk as a floor. This page sells the 6 GB tier, comfortable headroom above that floor for PostgreSQL running alongside the application — leave extra disk beyond the floor for contact volume and uploaded campaign assets.
Is xCloud officially partnered with Keila?
No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Keila project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Keila project.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
