Ktistec Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Ktistec hosting gives you your own ActivityPub server for the fediverse, on your own domain. xCloud runs the pinned Ktistec 3.13.0 image, completes the setup wizard for you, generates the administrator password, keeps the SQLite database and uploaded media on persistent volumes and publishes the site over HTTPS in minutes — one application container, no separate database service.

What is Ktistec?

Ktistec is an open-source ActivityPub server for the fediverse, intended for small numbers of trusted users, where every account is an administrator. It is designed to have few runtime dependencies: it uses SQLite as its database instead of PostgreSQL, Redis and other services.

On xCloud the Ktistec container runs on your own Cloud VPS, with the SQLite database and uploaded media on persistent volumes, so an xCloud Restart does not lose them.

From Sign-Up to Your Own Fediverse Server In Just 3 Easy Steps

A fediverse server normally means a container, a database file, a first-run wizard, a domain and a certificate before the first post. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick Ktistec from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server — there are no extra fields to fill in.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up the official Ktistec image, pinned by immutable digest, run a one-shot bootstrap container that completes setup and creates the admin account, mount the ktistec_db and ktistec_uploads volumes, generate the password, and publish the site over HTTPS on your domain.

  3. Step 03

    Sign In And Post

Save the administrator password from the installation credentials, open your HTTPS Ktistec URL and sign in at /sessions as admin. Change the password under Settings, then publish your first post.

Everything Ktistec Does, On Your Own Server

Ktistec runs in full here: a small ActivityPub server with its own web interface, on a domain you control.

  • Rich Text And Markdown Posts

Write in a rich text editor or a Markdown editor, whichever you choose in account settings, with draft posts saved automatically as you type.

  • Follow The Fediverse

Follow people on other servers, approve follow requests, and follow threads, hashtags and mentions. Ktistec supports the remote follow protocol used by Mastodon and other servers.

  • Custom Feeds And A Feed Deck

Build feeds from keywords, hashtags and mentions, then read your published feeds side by side in the deck.

  • Filtering And Blocking

Content filters keep unwanted terms out of your timeline and notifications, and you can block authors or individual posts.

  • Visibility Controls

Choose who sees each post, mark posts sensitive behind a content warning, and send private messages to specific people.

  • RSS Feeds

RSS feeds on the home page and account pages let people follow along without a fediverse account.

  • Official image pinned by digest
  • Admin account generated for you
  • Kept behind xCloud nginx
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included

What You Can Do With Ktistec

  • Run a personal home on the fediverse

Publish under your own domain and follow people on other servers, instead of living on someone else's platform.

  • Host a small group's server

Give a few trusted people accounts on one instance, created by an administrator, with no public sign-up to moderate.

  • Write and publish with Markdown

Compose posts in Markdown or rich text, keep drafts, pin important posts and share them through RSS as well as the fediverse.

  • Follow topics, not just people

Follow hashtags, mentions and threads, and build keyword feeds to read side by side in the feed deck.

  • Translate posts in other languages

Add a DeepL or LibreTranslate API key to translate posts into your own language.

Hear what people are saying about us

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.
Kevin Pineda
I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson El
I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

How do I sign in?

Use the username admin and the password on the installation credentials card, at /sessions on your domain. Change the password under Settings after the first sign-in.

Can other people sign up?

No. There is no public sign-up. An administrator creates accounts at /admin/accounts, and every account is an administrator.

What runs alongside Ktistec?

Nothing else long-running: Ktistec is a single application container with SQLite. A one-shot bootstrap container completes first-run setup on the first start and then exits.

Is the setup wizard already done?

Yes. The bootstrap container completes it and creates the administrator on first start, so no visitor can claim the administrator account first.

Can I move the instance to another domain?

Not safely. The instance host is stored in the database and is part of every account's fediverse identity, so keep the site on the same domain.

Are posts and profiles public?

Yes, by design, as on any fediverse server. Other servers must reach the site over HTTPS to deliver to your inbox, so do not put HTTP Basic Auth in front of it.

Can I translate posts?

Yes. Remove the leading # on DEEPL_API_KEY or LIBRETRANSLATE_API_KEY in the environment file, add your key, then Save & Redeploy.

What should I back up?

Both volumes together: ktistec_db (the SQLite database with accounts, posts and the session secret) and ktistec_uploads (uploaded media). Stop the container before a file-level copy so SQLite stays consistent.

What are the daily database copies?

Ktistec runs in production mode and writes a daily copy of the database into the database volume as ktistec.db.backup_YYYYMMDD. It does not prune old copies, so delete them from the volume from time to time.

What survives a restart?

Posts, accounts and uploaded media, because they live on the persistent ktistec_db and ktistec_uploads volumes. A post was still present after an xCloud Restart in QA.

Does xCloud automatically back up or update Ktistec?

No. The template pins Ktistec 3.13.0 by immutable digest; new installations use the pinned release, existing sites are not automatically upgraded. Back up first, read the upstream release notes, then bump the readable tag and digest together on your own schedule. Server-level backups and snapshots are available on every Cloud VPS.

Has federation with other servers been tested?

Delivery to external servers was not exercised in verification. The site and its ActivityPub endpoints are served over HTTPS on your domain.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?

The template's baseline asks for 1 CPU core, 256 MB of RAM and 2 GB of disk; measured idle use in QA was about 54 MiB. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung, with real headroom above that baseline.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
