What is Linkding?

Linkding is a bookmark manager you host yourself, released under the MIT licence and designed to be minimal, fast and easy to set up. Upstream lists tags, bulk editing, Markdown notes and read-it-later, sharing with other users or guests, automatic titles, descriptions and icons, website archiving as a local HTML file or on the Internet Archive, Netscape HTML import and export, browser extensions, a REST API and sign-in through OIDC or authentication proxies. A self-hosted Linkding is a private alternative to a bookmark service such as Pocket.

On xCloud the template runs the official sissbruecker/linkding 1.47.0 image, pinned by digest, as one container with an embedded SQLite database and one volume, linkding_data. It uses SQLite rather than PostgreSQL, and no second database service runs. OIDC and authentication-proxy sign-in are available upstream but are not preconfigured here.

Can you self-host Linkding with Docker?

Yes. For Linkding Docker hosting the template runs the official sissbruecker/linkding 1.47.0 image, pinned by digest, as a single container on port 9090 with its embedded SQLite database. The port is bound to localhost and xCloud's nginx fronts it over HTTPS, so no second database service exists.

Is Linkding free and open source?

Linkding is open source under the MIT licence, so the bookmark manager has no licence fee. xCloud invoices the Cloud VPS and the deployment. Anything you later add, such as an identity provider for single sign-on, is billed by its own provider.

How much RAM does Linkding need?

The manifest asks for 512 MB of RAM, one CPU core and 2 GB of disk. Bookmark count, saved HTML snapshots, imports and background processing can increase memory and storage needs. The 6 GB plan sold here is well past that floor.

How do I sign in to Linkding?

Open your HTTPS address and sign in with the administrator username you chose and the generated password on your credentials panel. The initial superuser is created only if it does not already exist, so editing those values later does not change the account. Add other users from the admin interface.

Can I import bookmarks into Linkding?

Yes. Upstream supports importing and exporting bookmarks in Netscape HTML format, so you can bring links from a browser or another service. It also provides browser extensions for Firefox and Chrome, a bookmarklet and a REST API for saving links from other tools.

How do I back up Linkding?

Back up the whole linkding_data volume, which holds the SQLite database and files managed by the application. For a consistent copy, stop writes or use an SQLite-aware snapshot before copying. Keep copies off-server and test a restore before you rely on them.

How do I upgrade Linkding?

Version 1.47.0 is fixed by digest, so a catalog re-sync reaches new installs only. Back up the whole volume, read the upstream release notes and migrations, then adopt a newer template version when you decide. Never delete the volume as part of an upgrade.

Does Linkding archive the pages I save?

Upstream can archive websites either as a local HTML file or on the Internet Archive. The Internet Archive option sends the address of each saved page to a third party, so check that it suits private bookmarks. Saved snapshots add to disk use.

Can I run Linkding in the cloud on xCloud?

Yes. Linkding cloud use gives the bookmark manager a dedicated Cloud VPS with your domain and certificate. Prefer another provider's server? It works once connected as self-managed. Size its disk for any saved page snapshots.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
