Mumble Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Deploy Mumble hosting for a self-hosted voice chat server that your community, clan or team joins by address and password. xCloud starts the pinned mumble-server image, generates a Server Password and a SuperUser admin password, keeps channels and registered users on a persistent volume and shows the address and ports in your credentials. Mumble has no web page, so everyone connects with a Mumble client.

What is Mumble?

Mumble is an open-source, low-latency and high-quality voice-chat program built on Qt and Opus. It has two modules: the client, which runs on Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD and macOS, and the server, mumble-server, formerly known as murmur. It supports plugins and uses a BSD-style licence from The Mumble Developers. Self-hosted Mumble is the option for groups that would otherwise rely on hosted voice chat such as Discord or TeamSpeak.

On xCloud the template runs the official mumblevoip/mumble-server image at v1.5.939, pinned by digest, as a single container with an embedded SQLite database on the mumble_data volume. It has no domain and no HTTPS: clients connect straight to the server IP on a control port (TCP) and a voice port (UDP). The first connection asks you to accept the server's self-signed certificate. You administer channels and permissions as SuperUser.

From Sign-Up to a Live Mumble Install In Just 3 Easy Steps

Self-hosting a voice chat server normally means a container, a certificate, generated passwords and two open firewall ports before a single person can join. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick Mumble from the OneClick catalog — no extra fields, xCloud generates the credentials.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We start the pinned mumblevoip/mumble-server v1.5.939 image as a single container, mount the mumble_data volume, generate a Server Password and a SuperUser admin password, and show the server address, control port and voice port in the protected installation credentials.

  3. Step 03

    Open Your Firewall And Connect

Open the control port (TCP) and voice port (UDP) in your own firewall, then in a Mumble client add a server with the address, port and Server Password, and accept the self-signed certificate. Connect as SuperUser with the Admin Password to create channels and set permissions.

Everything Mumble Does, On Your Own Server

Mumble runs in full here — the same low-latency voice chat as any hosted Mumble server, on infrastructure you control.

  • Voice Chat For Communities And Teams

Voice chat for gaming clans, communities, study groups and remote teams on a server you control.

  • Channels And Permissions Via SuperUser

Channels, registered users and permission rules are managed through the SuperUser account.

  • Encrypted Control And Voice Traffic

Control traffic and voice are encrypted using a self-signed certificate the server generates.

  • Password-Gated By Default

A Server Password is generated at install, so only people you share it with can join.

  • Connection-Flood Ban

The server bans an address for five minutes after more than ten connection attempts in two minutes.

  • Restart-Safe Channels And Permissions

Channels, registered users and permissions survive an xCloud Restart — verified by restarting and reading the channel back.

Everything You Need To Run Your Voice Chat 24/7

Managed hosting for Mumble, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • Mumble v1.5.939 deployed instantly
  • Generated Server and SuperUser passwords
  • Encrypted control and voice traffic
  • Persistent SQLite channel database
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With Mumble

  • Run voice for a gaming clan

Give a clan its own channels for squads and strategy, behind a Server Password you share. Members join with a Mumble client, and registered users and permissions stay on the server across restarts.

  • Host calls for a remote team

A small team can keep a standing voice room for stand-ups and pairing without a hosted subscription. Control traffic is TLS and voice is encrypted, so the audio is not sent in the clear.

  • Open a public community server

Clear MUMBLE_CONFIG_SERVER_PASSWORD and redeploy to let anyone with the address join. Set ALLOWPING to false if you do not want anonymous pings to read the user count and bandwidth.

  • Keep a study group in one channel tree

Create channels for each subject as SuperUser, register the members and set permissions per channel. The database lives on mumble_data, so the layout comes back after a restart.

Mumble vs Alternatives

Discord
Discord is a hosted chat service. Mumble runs on your own Cloud VPS, is open source under a BSD-style licence and is built for voice with text chat, and keeps channels, registered users and permissions on a volume you back up.
TeamSpeak
TeamSpeak is another voice server people compare with. Mumble's server is open source under a BSD-style licence, and this template pins mumble-server v1.5.939 with a 256 MB RAM floor and an embedded SQLite database.
Jitsi
Jitsi has its own xCloud page and is browser-based video conferencing where guests join a room. Choose Mumble for always-on voice channels reached through a native client instead of a browser.
Matrix Synapse
Matrix Synapse has its own xCloud page. Mumble is narrower: low-latency voice with channels and permissions, and no web interface or domain in this template.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson El
I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

What is Mumble used for?

Mumble is used for live voice chat in gaming clans, communities, study groups and remote teams. People join channels on your server with a Mumble client, and an administrator manages channels, registered users and permissions as SuperUser.

Is Mumble free?

Yes, Mumble is open-source software under a BSD-style licence with copyright held by The Mumble Developers, so the server and client cost nothing to use. What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated Cloud VPS that runs the server and the deployment around it.

Is Mumble encrypted?

Yes. Control traffic uses TLS and voice is encrypted, using a self-signed certificate the server generates itself. Clients are asked to trust that certificate the first time they connect. Because the certificate is self-signed, there is no domain name or HTTPS certificate involved, only the server IP.

Can you run a Mumble server with Docker?

Yes. For Mumble Docker hosting the template runs the official mumblevoip/mumble-server image, pinned by digest, as a single container with the mumble_data volume mounted and both ports published. It generates the passwords too, so you do not write a compose file or edit the server configuration by hand.

How do I set the SuperUser password on a Mumble server?

Change MUMBLE_SUPERUSER_PASSWORD in the Environment editor and redeploy. The SuperUser password and every MUMBLE_CONFIG_ value are written to the configuration on each start, so a password you change inside a Mumble client is overwritten at the next restart. The generated one is in your credentials panel.

What ports does a Mumble server use?

Mumble uses port 64738 inside the container for both TCP control and UDP voice. The template publishes them on two different host ports, shown in your credentials. xCloud does not open firewall ports, so open both yourself. Clients then carry voice over the TCP connection, with slightly higher latency.

Does Mumble have a web interface?

No. Mumble has no web interface, and this template has no domain or HTTPS page. Install a Mumble client on desktop or mobile, add a server with the address, port and Server Password, and connect as SuperUser with the Admin Password to create channels and set permissions.

How do I back up Mumble?

A Mumble backup is the mumble_data volume. It holds the SQLite database with your channels, registered users and permissions, plus the generated server configuration. Keep your environment values too, including the Server Password and the SuperUser password. Restore the volume to a new install and test that your channels come back.

How do I upgrade Mumble?

Mumble v1.5.939 is pinned by digest, so it only changes when you move to a newer template version that bumps the tag and digest together. Read the upstream release notes and back up mumble_data first. A template re-sync affects new installs only; existing servers keep their pin until you redeploy.

How much RAM does a Mumble server need?

The template manifest asks for 256 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 2 GB of disk, and idle use measured in single-digit MiB in QA. The 6 GB Cloud VPS sold here leaves room for many channels and speakers and for other apps beside it.

Can I run Mumble in the cloud on xCloud?

Yes. For Mumble cloud use, xCloud sets up a dedicated Cloud VPS and deploys the server onto it. Members connect to its IP address, so open the control and voice ports in your firewall. A server from another provider can be attached as a self-managed server, and the voice server deploys onto it.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
