Is One-Time Secret free?
Yes — it is free and open source under the MIT License. What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the application itself.
Can I self-host One-Time Secret?
Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the official One-Time Secret 0.26.8 image alongside a private Valkey service, both pinned by immutable digest, mounts the persistent data volume and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain in minutes instead of assembled by hand.
Does this page overstate the security model?
No — and it's deliberately careful not to. What's verified is a single-reveal link with a chosen lifetime, a generated root secret enforced at boot, and a Valkey datastore with no public database port. This is not a claim of end-to-end encryption or a zero-knowledge design; treat it as a self-hosted secret-sharing tool, not a cryptographic guarantee beyond what's documented.
Do I need to create an account to share a secret?
No. Anonymous secret creation is the baseline this template ships. Account signup, email verification and notifications are optional upstream features that need SMTP configured separately — they are not set up by default.
What does xCloud configure automatically?
The generated root secret, the private Valkey service, the persistent one_time_secret_valkey volume, the domain and the HTTPS route. Only the One-Time Secret web interface is published through xCloud-managed ingress; Valkey has no public port.
What should I back up?
The one_time_secret_valkey volume together with the stable root secret. The root secret protects encryption and sessions — restoring the data without the matching root secret can make retained state unusable. Preserve both from the same installation and verify a disposable test secret after restoration.
Can I rotate the root secret?
Keep it stable to preserve existing encrypted state. If you do need to change it, use the Environment editor for a coordinated change, and back up the Valkey volume first — a mismatched secret is designed to refuse to start rather than serve unreadable data.
Does xCloud automatically back up or update One-Time Secret?
No. The template pins One-Time Secret 0.26.8 and Valkey 8.1 by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Review upstream release notes and take a tested backup before changing either pinned image.
What are the server requirements?
The template manifest asks for 1 GB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 2 GB of disk as a floor. This page sells the same 6 GB tier as every other OneClick app, well above what One-Time Secret itself needs, so there's room for other work on the same server.
What survives a restart?
Everything on one_time_secret_valkey, because it is a persistent named volume. A restart does not touch an existing secret, session data or the application's root secret.
Is xCloud officially partnered with One-Time Secret?
No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the One-Time Secret project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source One-Time Secret project.
Can I run other apps on the same server?
Yes. It is a dedicated Cloud VPS, not a locked appliance, so you can deploy other OneClick apps or your own sites beside it as long as the resources are there.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
