What is Yopass?
Yopass is an open-source, self-hosted tool for sharing expiring, single-use secrets and small files. Encryption and decryption happen in the browser, so the server only ever stores ciphertext. This template deploys version 14.9.0.
Is Yopass free?
Yes — the Yopass baseline is free and open source under the Apache License 2.0. Yopass Business is a separate, separately purchased commercial offering and is not included or resold by xCloud. What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it.
Can I self-host Yopass?
Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the official Yopass image alongside a private Redis service, both pinned by immutable digest, generates Redis authentication, mounts a persistent volume, and publishes Yopass over HTTPS on your domain in minutes instead of assembled by hand.
How does a secret expire or become one-time?
When you encrypt a secret in the browser, you choose an expiration period and whether it can be retrieved only once. Yopass deletes it from Redis once the expiration passes or, for one-time secrets, once it has been viewed — whichever happens first.
Does one-time retrieval prove who opened the link?
No. One-time retrieval limits a secret to a single view, reducing exposure, but it does not identify or verify who opened it. Treat link delivery itself as the trust boundary.
Do recipients need an account?
No. Yopass is account-free by design — anyone who can reach the site can create a secret, and anyone holding a complete generated link can retrieve it until it expires or is viewed once. There is no login and no administrator account in the free baseline.
What does xCloud configure automatically?
A private Redis service with a generated authentication value, persistent storage for encrypted payloads, the domain and the HTTPS route. Only Yopass itself is published — Redis stays private to the internal network with no public database port.
What should I back up?
yopass_redis_data, which holds every encrypted secret and file record along with Redis's own persistence data. Back it up consistently, since it is the only place ciphertext lives.
Can restoring a backup bring back a secret I already viewed or deleted?
Yes, and this is a property of the software, not a bug. Restoring an older backup of yopass_redis_data can resurrect ciphertext for a secret that had already expired or been consumed. If someone retained the original link, they may still hold the decryption key needed to read it. Set backup retention according to your own data-retention policy.
Does xCloud automatically back up or update Yopass?
No. The template pins Yopass and Redis by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Review Yopass's upstream release notes, back up yopass_redis_data, and test creation and retrieval before changing either pinned image.
What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?
The template manifest asks for 512 MB of RAM, one CPU core and 4 GB of disk as a floor for Yopass and its Redis sidecar. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung — well above that floor, with headroom for request volume, payload size and Redis's own persistence overhead.
How do I rotate the Redis password?
Update REDIS_PASSWORD in xCloud's Environment editor, then restart or redeploy the whole stack together so both Yopass and Redis pick up the new value. Back up yopass_redis_data first, since Redis authentication changes are not something to test without a recovery point in hand.
What survives a restart?
Everything on yopass_redis_data, because it is a persistent named volume. Restarting the containers does not touch stored ciphertext or Redis's append-only persistence log — expiration and one-time consumption still remove secrets on their own schedule.
Is xCloud officially partnered with Yopass?
No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Yopass project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Yopass project.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
