What is SSHwifty?

SSHwifty, written Sshwifty by upstream, is an SSH and Telnet client made for the web, which allows you to access SSH and Telnet services right from your web browser. Upstream recommends deploying it as a Docker container. A self-hosted SSHwifty is an alternative to installing a desktop SSH client on every laptop, released under AGPL-3.0, with the connection made from your own server and a password in front of it.

On xCloud it is SSHwifty 0.4.11-beta-release from the upstream image, pinned by digest, as one stateless container. xCloud generates a web access password and writes a private configuration that enables only the SSH preset for the single host and port you declare. Telnet is not enabled, SSH credentials are never stored, and the service keeps no volumes.

Can SSHwifty connect to any SSH server?

No. The template enables only the one SSH host and port you entered at install, and other destinations are rejected. Choose it deliberately, and avoid cloud metadata, loopback, link-local or private infrastructure unless you mean to administer exactly that.

Where are my SSH credentials stored in SSHwifty?

Nowhere. The username and authentication material you type are handled by the active browser session and are not part of the template configuration. Remote host keys, accounts and files also stay with the remote system.

Is the SSHwifty web interface password protected?

Yes. A generated web access password guards the interface. Change SHARED_PASSWORD in the Environment editor and the new value applies on the next restart. Keep it private, because it is the only gate in front of the client.

Can you self-host SSHwifty with Docker?

Yes. Upstream recommends Docker, and this template is SSHwifty Docker hosting without the setup: the 0.4.11 beta image pinned by digest, a private allowlist configuration and HTTPS on your own domain, with no volumes to manage.

How much RAM does SSHwifty need?

The manifest floor is 1024 MB of RAM, one core and 2 GB of disk. SSHwifty is stateless, so the 6 GB plan leaves ample room for other apps, though each open terminal adds a little load.

Does SSHwifty support Telnet?

Upstream supports SSH and Telnet, but this template enables only the SSH preset for your declared destination. Telnet is not enabled here, so plan to use SSH for the target host and keep any Telnet-only devices off this install.

Is SSHwifty open source?

Yes. SSHwifty is licensed under AGPL-3.0, so the software has no licence fee. You pay for the Cloud VPS, which makes this an SSHwifty cloud of your own, and this build is a beta release.

Is it safe to expose SSHwifty to the internet?

The backend can initiate outbound SSH, so treat the web password as sensitive and pick the destination carefully. Avoid cloud metadata, loopback and private addresses as the target unless you mean to administer exactly that.

How do I back up SSHwifty?

SSHwifty is stateless, so there is no volume. Back up the rendered xCloud environment and site configuration so the web password and destination allowlist can be recreated. Remote accounts, keys and files remain the remote system's job.

How do I upgrade SSHwifty?

The install stays on its pinned 0.4.11-beta-release image until you adopt a newer template version. Read the upstream releases, then test authentication and the allowed destination afterwards. Roll back by restoring the previous version with the matching environment.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
