Yes. Upstream recommends its Docker compose repository as the quickest start, and this template is Tyk Open Source Gateway Docker hosting already assembled: the Gateway and Valkey pinned by digest, generated secrets and HTTPS. It is your own Tyk Open Source Gateway cloud.

How much RAM does the Tyk Open Source Gateway need?

The xCloud template asks for 2 GB of memory, 2 vCPUs and 5 GB of disk for the Gateway and Valkey together. Our entry plan is 6 GB, giving headroom for request volume and the datastore as traffic grows.

Is the Tyk Open Source Gateway free?

The Gateway deployed here is MPL-2.0 open source with no software fee. You are billed for the Cloud VPS, cancellable any time. Tyk Self Managed and Tyk Cloud are separate enterprise products and are not part of this template.

Does the Tyk Open Source Gateway include the Tyk Dashboard?

No. This template installs only the open source Gateway and explicitly excludes Tyk Dashboard, Pump, MDCB, analytics services and commercially licensed ee code. Those belong to Tyk's self-managed and cloud platforms, which are separate products.

How do I verify the Tyk Open Source Gateway works?

Call the bundled /fixture/get endpoint with the generated API key in the Authorization header. A valid key returns JSON, while anonymous and invalid-key requests are rejected. That round trip proves the gateway is authenticating requests correctly.

Can I expose the Tyk control API?

Not through this template. The control listener stays private to the Compose network, and only the gateway's request-routing listener is published over HTTPS. Keep it that way, since the control API can change your API definitions.

How do I add real APIs to the Tyk Open Source Gateway?

Extend the deployment through a reviewed Tyk API-definition workflow rather than exposing the control API publicly. The bundled fixture definition is immutable, so you add your own definitions deliberately, one at a time, and test authentication again afterwards.

Which secrets must I keep stable on the Tyk Open Source Gateway?

Keep GATEWAY_SECRET and FIXTURE_API_KEY stable, and restore them together with the tyk_valkey_data volume from the same installation. Changing them without a plan can break clients that hold the key, so store both values with your backup.

The install stays on pinned Gateway 5.14.0 and Valkey until you adopt a newer template version. Take a tested backup, read the Tyk and Valkey release notes, then redeploy and rerun the authentication check and a restart. Nothing upgrades automatically.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
