What is Tyk Open Source Gateway?
Tyk Open Source Gateway is the open-source core of the Tyk API management platform — authentication, routing and rate-limiting in front of your APIs. This template deploys Gateway version 5.14.0.
Does this include Tyk Dashboard or other enterprise services?
No. This template installs only the open-source Gateway and explicitly excludes Tyk Dashboard, Pump, MDCB, analytics and commercially licensed `ee` code.
Is Tyk Open Source Gateway free, and what license is it under?
The Gateway boundary this template deploys is under MPL-2.0. What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the open-source software itself.
Can I self-host Tyk Open Source Gateway?
Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the official Gateway image alongside private Valkey storage, both pinned by immutable digest, generates the gateway secret and API key, and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain in minutes instead of assembled by hand.
How do I verify the installation actually works?
Use the generated API key against the bundled /fixture/get endpoint. A valid key returns JSON; anonymous and invalid-key requests are rejected — that round trip is the proof the gateway is authenticating correctly.
Can I expose Tyk's control API?
Not through this template. The control listener stays private to the Compose network; only the gateway's own request-routing listener is published over HTTPS.
What does xCloud configure automatically?
The pinned Tyk Gateway and Valkey images, a generated gateway control secret and customer API key, the immutable bundled API definition, the domain and the HTTPS route.
What should I back up?
GATEWAY_SECRET and FIXTURE_API_KEY together with the tyk_valkey_data volume — restore all three from the same installation. The API-definition volume is materialized fresh from immutable Compose configuration at startup, so it does not need to be part of that backup.
Does xCloud automatically back up or update Tyk?
No. Both the Gateway and Valkey images are pinned by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Before upgrading, take a tested backup, review Tyk and Valkey release notes, update the immutable image pins, and rerun authentication, Restart-persistence and deletion checks.
How do I add real APIs beyond the bundled fixture?
Extend the deployment through a reviewed Tyk API-definition workflow rather than exposing Tyk's control API publicly — the control listener is deliberately kept off the internet in this template.
What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?
The template manifest asks for 2 CPU cores, 2 GB of RAM and 5 GB of disk as a floor for the Gateway and Valkey together. Per xCloud's own sizing rule, a manifest floor at or under 2 GB sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung, with real headroom above that floor.
What survives a restart?
Everything on tyk_valkey_data, because it is a persistent named volume — the generated gateway secret, API key and gateway state all persist across an xCloud Restart.
Is xCloud officially partnered with Tyk?
No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and Tyk Technologies has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Tyk Gateway project.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
