What is WBO?

WBO is an online collaborative whiteboard that allows many users to draw simultaneously on a large virtual board, according to its README. The board is updated in real time for all connected users and its state is always persisted, which suits art, design, teaching and entertainment. Upstream describes tools for freehand drawing, shapes, text and SVG export. A self-hosted WBO is licensed AGPL-3.0-or-later.

On xCloud the template runs WBO 2.17.0 from the official image (digest-pinned) as a lone container with no database. Board SVG files and history sit on the wbo_data volume. WBO has no accounts or admin role: access is a capability URL, and xCloud generates a secret board name and shows the full URL in your credentials. The site root remains WBO's landing page and does not reveal it.

Is WBO free?

Yes. WBO is open source under AGPL-3.0-or-later, so the whiteboard has no licence fee or per-seat charge. You pay xCloud for the dedicated Cloud VPS, and boards stored as SVG files take disk in proportion to how much is drawn.

How much RAM does WBO need?

The minimum is a single core, 1024 MB of RAM and 10 GB of disk. The 6 GB plan leaves headroom above that floor, and disk grows with the number and size of your boards and their history.

Can you self-host WBO with Docker?

Yes, and this template is WBO Docker hosting without the setup: the official lovasoa/wbo v2.17.0 image pinned by digest, one container with no database, the wbo_data volume and HTTPS on your domain, with a secret board generated for you.

Do I need an account to use a WBO board?

No. WBO has no user-account system and no administrator. A board is identified by its URL, and anyone holding that URL can open and edit it, so possession of the link is the access control. Keep the board URL private.

How do WBO boards work?

Each board lives at its own path, /boards/<board-name>. xCloud generates a random 32-character name at install and shows the complete secret URL once in your credentials. Share only the link you intend, because the long random name is what keeps it private.

Can I make a WBO instance private?

The board URL is a capability, so keep it secret. For stronger control, enable xCloud's site-level Basic Authentication in front of the whole site. WBO's optional JWT verifier needs an external token issuer and is not enabled in this template.

Can I export a WBO board?

Yes. Use the download tool in the board, or open /preview/<board-name> when an SVG export is useful. Board state is also stored as SVG files in the wbo_data volume, so a backup of that volume contains everything.

How do I back up WBO?

Back up the wbo_data volume, which holds all board SVG data and history and is the complete server-side state. Deleting that volume permanently removes every board, so keep a copy off the server and test a restore.

How do I upgrade WBO?

The install stays on WBO 2.17.0 until you adopt a newer template version. Copy wbo_data first and read the upstream release notes. A redeploy keeps the volume and your boards, and nothing upgrades the app automatically.

Is there a WBO cloud service I can use?

Upstream runs a public demo server. This page is your own WBO cloud instead: a dedicated Cloud VPS running the open-source whiteboard, with boards on a volume of your own and a secret URL only you share.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
