What is Whishper?

Whishper is an open-source, AGPL-3.0 audio transcription and subtitling suite with a full web interface. It transcribes audio and video with Faster-Whisper, can translate the result through LibreTranslate, and lets you edit subtitles and download them as TXT, JSON, VTT or SRT.

On xCloud the web app, a private LibreTranslate service and a private MongoDB database run together behind an authentication proxy, with uploads, models and history on persistent volumes.

How do I sign in after deployment?

Use the generated HTTP Basic username and password that xCloud shows after installation. They protect the whole installation, because Whishper 3.1.4 has no built-in user accounts or multi-user isolation.

Can several people have their own accounts?

No. Access is one installation-wide HTTP Basic credential, so everyone who has it sees the same transcriptions. Share it only with people you trust with all of the content.

Does it use a GPU?

No. This template runs Whishper's CPU profile. Duration and capacity depend on media length, model size, languages and how many jobs run at once.

Which transcription models and languages can I choose?

At install you pick the model set — Tiny only, Tiny and Base, or Tiny and Small — and the LibreTranslate language set. Larger sets download more data and need more resources.

What survives a restart?

MongoDB data and logs, uploads and generated outputs, application logs, transcription models and LibreTranslate data persist in the named volumes whishper_mongo_data, whishper_mongo_logs, whishper_uploads, whishper_logs, whishper_models and whishper_translate_data.

Is the database exposed to the internet?

No. MongoDB and LibreTranslate are private services; the nginx authentication proxy is the only published service, and xCloud provides HTTPS.

Is importing from a URL safe?

URL import makes the server fetch the address you give it, so keep it available only to trusted credential holders and apply an appropriate egress policy for the server.

What should I back up?

All six volumes together — whishper_mongo_data, whishper_mongo_logs, whishper_uploads, whishper_logs, whishper_models and whishper_translate_data — plus the generated credentials. Take them from one consistent window and test the restore on an isolated install.

Backups in xCloud

Does xCloud automatically back up or update Whishper?

No. The template pins Whishper 3.1.4 and its supporting images by immutable digest; new installs use the pinned release and existing sites are not upgraded automatically. Before upgrading, read the upstream release notes, take and test a coordinated backup, then change the versions and digests together.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 16 GB?

The template asks for 4 CPU cores, 6144 MB of RAM and 15 GB of disk for a small CPU-only workload. That is a functional floor, not a capacity guarantee: long media and concurrent jobs may need a materially larger server, so this page sells the 16 GB tier.

Is xCloud officially partnered with Whishper?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Whishper project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Whishper project, licensed under AGPL-3.0.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
